SAPPHIRE 5970 & VAPOR X 5870 DELIVERY & POWERCOLOR 5850 DIRT 2 DELIVERY

Would not go any higher without stupid volts. And I am on air.
I was playing HalfLife 2 + EP1 and 2 on 1920x1080 with the Cinematic Mod at fulll everything, and the fps display was stuck at 60 fps no matter what! I would say that is a win!

great little cpu indeed. i'm pretty much the same in terms of overclocking 3.4ghz is 100% stable, i have to put silly volts on to get 3.6.. but its pretty stable over winter (air cooler too).

was just wondering if i can get away with just a graphics card upgrade this year, maybe a 5850? will the E6600 have the balls for it. Next years cpu architecture looks interesting so will hold out for a new build then.

is it better to have the multipler on x8 rather then x9 ? for 3.4ghz i use 378x9.

I’ve got an E6600 2.4 clocked at 3.0ghz and I’ve just ordered the sapphire 4870 vapour-x replacing a 8800GTX. Hopefully will be fine….

I did upgrade my PSU as I am currently using a Hiper Type R 580W and although the Hiper is a fantastic looking PSU, it has blue lights, excellent looking module connectors that screw into place its not very quiet and they have a bad reputation…

so true about the Hiper lol just praying mine can hold out 1 more year :D

Sorry that was a typo.... I ordered a 5870 vapor-x. Can't wait to get my grubby mitts on it..

Let us know how you get on.. if your cpu can take it I might get a 5870 instead :)

I ditched the Hiper Type R, I read way too many horror stories and I’ve had PSU’s go bang in the past, and normally they are like vampires, they don’t just die on their own, they take something else with it..!!

Although, just for giggles, I did throw the 5870 vapor-x into the Core 2 Duo board and tried playing Batman Arkham 1920 x 1080 v sync on a 1080p Plasma… steady 60fps max everything…

So, erm… Yeah due to the locking of the FPS to the screens refresh rate, I guess the additional CPU horsepower is nice for none GPU accelerated games, applications and Windows, but won’t make a bit of difference to me if I continue to sync every frame on my displays for games that will use the 5870 GPU. With the i5, the graphics, speed and smoothness with a solid 60FPS was just the same using the 5870 vapor-x as it was with the overclocked core 2 duo E6600 at 3.0ghz…

As for the 5870 vapor-x - its bloody huge... Make sure your case can fit it in. It also, how stupid, has the PCI power connectors at the back of the card, wish they'd been at the side. Oh, and its hot..!! not as in runs hot.. Its bloody awesome power, games run like stink.!! I've never played games at 1920 x 1080 before, I've been stuck in the world of 1024 x 768 for years...

Wow talk about a whole new world..
