*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

Odin and Shiva sisters the only mini boss i havent had trouble with yet if anything so far chapter 7 has been the ball ache one for me thus far.

When you say chapter 11 opens up is that when you reach grand pulse and can do side missions ? e.g. the hunts etc to build up the cp

I hate to sound nooby, im really a fps player, im new to final fantasy but enjoying this one.. however when you say use chains, how exactly do you do that, is it simply a case of using attack attack attack ?.

Yeah, hit after hit after hit etc.

Ravangers increase this the fastest.

Commandos increase it very slowly, but they slow down how long it takes for the bar to empty again.

Best way is to use COM to keep the chain, as it slows down the rate it drops, and SYN to build it up faster, I tend to swap between professions in order to build this up faster, then when they stager just hit them a lot :D

Jcb33.

I am on chapter 6. Sometimes when I attack someone their stagger bar reduces to 0 before I can hit them again so it is reset to 100%. Sometimes it reduces slowly so I keep hitting them till they are staggered. Why is this and what determines the speed?

I fought some big animal (which there were 2 more of, but I got a hint saying I could avoid them) I eventually won but it took so long (due to above) I didn't want to fight the other 2 that were nearby.

Having a commando attack the enemy will greatly reduce the speed the stagger bar goes down, with only ravagers it will fall at a really high rate.

If it's not that then I dunno, sometimes it does just fall.

Those would be the Terradons I assume.

They have massive defensive properties pre-stagger.

Yeah, you need to have a commando attack it atleast once.

I like to use Sazh's Procyons which maintain the stagger. :)

Yeah, I killed them all thinking something cool would happen - nope.

So Commando attacks make the stagger reduce slower? Then I quickly top them up with the appropriate magic to hit the stagger points?

Sadly I powered up his 2nd weapon (Something Duelers?). I have his Procyons in my Inventory but I am loathed to power them up now as I spent all my components now.

At this point I have Sazh and Vanille, so I guess I could use a Commando+Medic Paradigm to get him upto say 130% stagger then quickly swap to Avenger+Avenger to quickly go form 130% to 150% (stagger point) as the bar will reduce a bit slower.

Best method is to stick with a Commander/Ravanger paradigm at the start, then Ravenger + Ravenger when you've got the bar started, and then quickly change to Commander/Medic when you need to heal.

When staggered, go back to Com/Rav

Cheers,

With regards to weapons, i started levelling up most characters 2nd weapons. I am now starting to pick up their 3rd weapons. Have I made a mistake too early? The weapons all have a starting magic or strength of <20 so I thought it did not matter too much as you add much more Magic or Strength via Crystals than you do from levelling up?

I don't want to dismantle them as I assume I will get much less back than I invested in them.

From what I can see, most of the weapons seem as good as the other, but in different ways.

What I would suggest is that you think about what you want each character to eventually be specialised in, and choose a weapon that compliments this.

Once you get the weapon upgraded to level 6, you can then use a 'catalyst' to transform it into the next level, which much higher stats.

another good thing is once they're staggered use the time to quickly case deshell and deprotect they stay even when it regenerates it's shell so it takes more dmg.

You can really do some damage when you get 3 members if they all have the raveger ability, start commando/rav/rav and get the first points on the chain bar and a nice slow decent then hit rav/rav/rav and that bar will fly up then when its maxed goto com/rav/rav again until about half of the sagger bar remains, then hit com/rav/com and demolish the enemy.

The reasoning is that obviously com/rav/rav starts the chain bar and slows its decent (ps if you heal during the rav/rav/rav part you may need to switch to com/rav/rav to slow the bar again) then rav/rav/rav skyrockets it then when staggered repeated rav attacks drive up the damage percentage which you want as high as poss then 2 com's can dash in and shred the now heavily weakened (and probably airbourne) enemy. Only realy works on single large enemies though as com's tend to attack alternate targets.
