Avoriaz (Skiing)

Cheers for all the info guys, and those are some great photos orange peel! Really want to get out there now... The walls got my name all over it...

Glad the snows still around, hopefully it will dump again in the next couple of weeks:)

This is why the OCUK forums rule.

The OP asks for advice on going to Avoriaz and not one, but two people report back from in the area, at this moment in time.

You don't even get close to this service on the Ski Club website.

(to the OP, find the Mutzig bar in Morzine)

I consider myself a pretty good rider, with a good few full seasons under my belt.

When we decided to go to Switzerland one day, we reached the entrance which is 'the wall' however I don't think I'd seen such a steep, hue icey mogul field as bad as that before. Not to mention the visibility was so bad you could only see as far as couple of them forward. It just didn't look fun at all, so we downloaded the lift into the Swiss side instead.

The second picture down is quite cool though because I didn't see any of those mountains in the background when I was there due to the vis!

I've seen 'the wall' in a few snowboard videos when its untracked powder and it looks a lot nicer!

Aha! Is that the kind of old French bar with the old couple serving? Slippery floors and small wooden tables? Or was that the Mutzig? :p

Yes that's the one. Look out for the old woman who sits in the window behind the net curtain! Very Norman Bates Mumish lol.

I'm going to Avoriaz skiing in a couple of weeks. It's a bit last minute, but looks like they've still got a lot of snow! V excited!

I've never been to Avoriaz before, any of you lot been? What can I expect? Any really awesome runs to aim for? I can manage anything up to an easy black really. I don't ski off piste much but would like to give it a go, any areas accessible by lift to try?

I live an hour drive away...

The last 10 days have seen horrifically mild temperatures. + 18 down here. This has caused massive damage to he snow pack.

The good news is that today the weather changes colder and snowier.

I think you will find the snow-pack very poor below 1700m, but very good above 2000m. With fresh snow forecast you should have a great time.

I was in chamonix last week and registered +17c on a lift! Last sat it was raining hard up to 2500m
