Looking for something to eat and I've found some tinned tomato soup that expired in 2007. However my mother swears this is still fine to eat because it is in an air tight tin.

Anybody know if this is true?

Thanks :)

I have assumed tinned anything would be good for centuries. The reason tins even exist is that they're there to provide food for the years after a nuclear war.

In the interest of science you should consume the contents of the tin and document your findings.

unlucky, ocuk meet at the funeral?

Have you ever seen tinned food go bad? Had a tin of beans from ASDA go off... bleurgh!

I opened a 12 year old can of Bamboo shoots a couple of weeks ago, the inside of the can had actually eroded away and spoilt them :( Couldn't believe it, they'd been with me for so long.

Either the beans were bad before they got canned or the seam, the overlapping join where the lid meets the can body, wasn't airtight and the beans went off.

Or something else.

Tins of food have been open from the Napoleonic Wars, they found the produce to be fresh but very very deadly. They used to use lead to seal the cans.

I still have an unopened tin of Chefs beans and sausages my girlfriend game whilst we were courting 15 years ago. Trust me it was quite romantic at the time :)
