Tbh i wouldn't be surprised if there was an HD shopping channel, just a cheap way to get their HD channel numbers 'up' for advertising.

Sure look at Luxe.TV, its basically just advertising locations all day. Nice to look at yes, but its basically a shopping channel for people looking for a nice place to eat at or go on holiday to.

Is there any chance of getting the old EPG back like I had on the standard Sky+ box? the new one is pretty horrid, it lags and for some stupid reason you now have to press select twice to actually switch to a channel.

Not got a HD TV at the moment, but am tempted to phone up Aky and take up the offer on a free HD box and try to get out of the £10 sub due to not having a HD tv.

I found it lags if you have the little mini picture showing the tv channel. Turn off the mini picture and its as responsive as the old one.

You can get the HD Box just on its own without the HD sub (obviously taking at least 1 mix). You will only be able to watch C4HD and BBCHD though.

Absolutely no chance of getting the HD sub for free though.

Well in that case, FOM needs to pull its finger out and make that HD feed available. Or let broadcasters use their own HD. Its a sport which would look great in HD, the nascar certainly does :)

But short stuff in charge doesnt think its the right time to deliver F1 in HD. He doesnt think the market's there because he got burnt a while ago by a different tech.

It's completely ridiculous.

But good news on the official ITV channel.. i'll be able to remove it from the odd manually added location I currently have it.

Is anyone else not worried about all these new HD channels?
Just exactly where are they getting the badwidth to deliver all of these channels in HD without dropping other channels?
There is only a finite amount of "bandwidth" and eventually it's either channels that have to go or bitrates will have to fall.

On Freeview that's true, but I'm not sure FO and satellite have the same issues. One day, HD will be what SD is now i.e. the norm, but it won't be any time soon.

Anyway, what exactly are you worried about? Having to buy a new TV? You won't have to buy a new TV to watch HD, you'll just be watching it in SD. Or are you worried about there being less choice as you can fit fewer HD channels into the same space as SD? Again not a problem from my perspective, in that there's so much dross that I just never watch anyway. The decent / popular channels will remain, be sure of that. The more HD channels the better from my point of view, and if they shift poor quality SD (hello ITV) from our screens then even better.

Well my biggest worry is that HD channels will be broadcast but will look no better than SD - kinda defeating the whole object.
I too am all for more HD, I'd like to see everything in HD - just worried our choices will be reduced due to limiting bandwidth.

Not really worried. I have a couple of hundred channels available and I can very very quickly think of at least 30 or 40 of those which I would be happy to see dropped if it meant more HD channels. All of the god channels and all of the shopping channels to name but two types, (thats around 35 channels just there)

Sci Fi HD (soon to be called SyFy) has been confirmed for Virgin Media before April 13th.

I've found quite a big problem with SD content being shown on HD channels, it looks absolutely terrible, much worse than the same content on the SD channels.

eh? I thought film 4 HD was already on sky, I'm sure I've seen it

Nope definitely not. One of the only channels that i really want in HD and i have Sky+HD. Could be thinking of E4HD maybe?

Will be a Virgin Media exclusive when it comes out, but will probably go to Sky eventually.
