Hi was just wondering which make of SSD is best i'm looking to run win 7 and a couple of games off it.
So want around 64gb got a budget of £125 to £175 ish the less spent the better as would leave funds for other upgrades.
Thanks for any advice you could give

Same question as i've got.
I'm leaning towards the Intel X25-M 80GB. Just a little more than budget but a few GB extra,.. and all the reviews say it's the best.

Only thing putting me off is that it's been out a while,.. and in the last 2 months i've been looking I haven't seen the price change.

Well I have seen the 64gb Crucial M225 and the 60gb ocz vertex on offer for a similar price however while there both good drives from reviews I have read there also both relativley old.
I have a habit of buying stuff just before the new shiney version comes out and I'm a little worried by that.

You are never going to be able to keep up with the SSD market unless you have a lot of money. I forsee a lot of products being released this year and next that will change things substantially. As you've seen with the Crucial C300 and Vertex LE, the newer high performance SSD are costing more - not less.

If you think prices are going to drop, think again. The £ has weakened against the $ recently which pushes prices even higher. NAND flash is still priced highly too with no sign of it dropping.

As for what to buy now you can't really go wrong with Intel or OCZ. Both are providing constant updates and I'd rather take a brand that has developed a drive throughout its lifecycle than buying a product that seems quick but doesn't have the aftersales backup to match.

If you can afford/justify it, the Intel 80GB drive is pretty much the best overall performer out there at that price level, and seems to be the benchmark against which the other SSDs are tested. The extra few GB of capacity could also prove useful for the extra £30 or so.

I went with the Vertex, OCZ release firmware updates regularly and i've always had good support from them.
