A friend of a friend is a plumber, and over xmas a pipe popped,, my dad sort of fixed it but he cudnt stop it leaking at the join. So this guy came and looked at it, and fixed the pipe but shortly after it leaked again. He was comming back again anyway to replace the stop tap, cos you couldnt turn it off fully. Anyway a week later he came back with the metal stop tap, but it was the wrong fitting, so he went of to change it,, and he came back with a plastic stop tap

Anyway changing the tap and the pipe took like 10 mins,, and the charge was £70??

I don't know much about plumbing but I think that sounds about right. Plumbers would normally have a minimum call out charge, even though the work only took 10 minutes you will be getting charged a minimum amount + parts. etc.

Off the top of my head, aren't call out charges anything from £60 upwards?

Sounds like the going rate to me

He came back several times, repaired a leaking pipe and replaced a stop tap. £70 is rather a good bargain really.

So the plumber fixed something which leaked again, then gets the wrong stop tap, and you lot think £70 is a bargain? Lol. Sounds to me like the guy doesn't know what he's doing.

Price is reasonable but fixing a leaking joint that then leaks again + calling back once again with wrong fitting in metal [Stop Tap?]then going out for a plastic fitting would completely destroy all faith in me of him being a Plumber.

He could have charged a lot more. Many plumbers do - good and bad. I made no comment on his abilities! :D

We weren't pushing him to do it, he came when he was passing in the area, and I've been out meny times for a drink with. I wouldnt say we were best buddies, but I just know him from a friend I go out drinking with. Plus I fix my friends pc loads of times for nothing.

Sounds pretty cheap to me. And you got what you paid for! :p

BTW, for £35 I'll teach you how to spell "steep."

Most of you youngsters nowadays will to go to University and end up with a degree that will get you on £7.95 an hour at McDonalds.

Why not wise up and get some vocational skills and earn some real money brick laying, plumbing or sparking before thinking about doing a worthless degree in media studies etc.

1. Theres sod all money in it any more, all my uncles are tradesmen and haven't got a pot to **** in. You have to be lucky to get a decent paying job in a trade.

2. Most people who do degrees actually do something with it, some people are dossers granted but a good portion of people know what they want to do with their degrees. Or maybe you should tell your doctor he should have become a plumber?

Stop with the trolling.

£70.00 seems reasonable

i wouldn't recommend anyone start learning a wet trade such as bricklaying, it's getting phased out more and more by the year

I got hit with a similar charge for a plumber, £70 to fix a burst pipe under the sink, 10mins work max.

Three weeks later i had 3 burst outside pipes (after the winter cold snap) and a burst connection to the outside oil burner.
I had a different plumber there for about an hour and a half in freezing cold conditions, climbing onto a roof to fix the three burst pipes, in the end he charged £60.
Needless to say, i'll be holding on to his number for future callouts.
