*** Final Fantasy XIII ***

There are two types, defined by the icon next to them. In terms of shops the two types are sold in seperate ones ("Creature Comforts" has one type and something "garage" has the other).

In terms of the ones already in your inventory, look at the icon or just "Sort" it so you can clearly tell between the types.

The "weird" icon ones add a small amount of XP and also increase the XP multiplier on the weapons/accessories. The "bolt" icon ones add XP and reduce the multiplier. The multiplier cannot go higher than x3. I add the weird icon ones, one by one, till the weapon shows a x3 multiplier, then I whack on a bolt icon one that increase the XP by a lot in one go (but will reduce the multiplier).

It is hard to explain, Someone with the strategy guide can probably explain it better. I learnt by trial and error and wasted a lot of stuff along the way.

cheers, my gladius has got a star next to it now, is that as much as it can do?

Yeah, you need a special object to level it up and it will transform from a Gladius into something else, everything except the item needed will be greyed out.

What Chapter is this 1st available in? I have loads of Catalysts in my Components section, but no obvious way to use them (I just beat the boss in Chapter 11 and am debating moving on to 12 or not).

Edit: re-read your post. Maybe I have the ability as my items are greyed out. Is it 1 catalyst per weapon? If so I have 8 of them in my inventory, do you think one of them will be un-greyed out if I highlight the appropriate weapon? Is it only un greyed out of you have the right weapon and it is at Level 25? So many questions....yet too tight to buy the strategy guide....and too scared to look on google as it is too easy to learn too much.....

Any chapter, you should just be able to use them on * items like a normal item.

Each one needs a certain Catalyst though, so just check each weapon to see if any are lit up.

Say I have the right item in my inventory, but the appropriate weapon is not * (yet) will it be lit up? I only upgraded 3 weapons and I don't want to waste components on them all becoming * just to see if the icons will light up.

You need Uraninite to level up Gladius apparently.

Here and here are some fairly handy weapon levelling guides that may prove to be handy for some.

Anyone got any tips how to beat Chapter 10 boss ? :D Got him down to about 1/2HP but keep getting my ass handed on a plate :( Even worse is I don't have any shrouds either. Tried starting with MED/SYN/SAB and then switching to COM/RAV/RAV using Lightning/Sazh/Vanille. When he transforms at 1/2way he just kicks my butt lol

Now I have too many options, and am regretting some of my upgrade choices :( ;)

Is the strength attribute only used for Commando attacks? in which case is it a waste upgrading a strength weapon for someone who does not have it as one of their main 3 roles?

Might want to spoiler tag that.

can't reall give you much advice as I had no issue with the fight what so ever, I didn't use any buffs/debuffs.

I used these though:

Com/Sen/Rav
Com/Com/Rav
Com/Rav/Rav
Com/Sen/Med

That was with Light/Fang/Hope

Decided to put this game up for sale. Have played for 3/4 hours and have just got to the bit with Sazh and Vanille in the lowlands I think it is. I (Sazh) was dying over and over because he is so **** and the fact he's been complaining over and over throughout the game so far means I can't tolerate it any longer.

(Ironic that i'm complaining about the game also :p)

I'm only interested in the cutscenes and story and not so much about playing so i'll just watch a Let's Play on YouTube and fast forward the Sazh bits :)

I'm not entirely sure but I think strength is mainly (only?) for commandos and sentinels physical attacks. If you are using Lightning as, for example, a commando and a ravager then the Gladius will prove to be pretty bad a weapon as it's magic stat is low, causing ravager attacks to be weak. It is fine for commando damage, though.

I've been saving upgrading Lightning's weapon for until chapter 12 when I can get the Lionheart.

It's worth noting that the weapons listed in that guide are far from a definitive list of all weapons available.

Indeed, all I've done from the start is save cash and then upgrade Gladius. Everyone else has level 1 weapons and items but Lightning on Commando with Blitz can take down anything usually before my ravagers get a chance to stagger them.

I've just been doing that Mah Habara run a few times, but I need to find hawkeye for Hope. That gives some serious magical power.. I think I sold one earlier so it may be available from the shop.

tip: If you are strong enough (you will be after a few runs of that section), go back outside to where the 2 big creatures were fighting. Over 6K XP for a 1 min battle and you just run away, then run back and they respawn, and also every single time you pre-empt them. After a while I found that more efficient than Mah Habara (Although Mah Habara drops more useful components).

Or.. I think someone said it earlier: Later in Chapter 11 (Taejins Tower) you come across 5 Pulsework Gladiators on the 5th tier walkway. 8k CP, easily pre-emptive, 20 second kill with an easy respawn (run up the stairs, ignore the vampire, not worth it) and a savepoint nearby. If you've the stamina, grind on them enough reserve to complete the next crystarium stage, or if you're insane. On the Crystarium grids at level Zero. I would however advise against that course of action until after the story is finished.

Regarding Limit Breaks. There isn't any true. but you can create synthesised abilities via accesories/weapons that will massively drive up a stagger bar to 999.9% very quickly... Leaving characters special abilities found in level 5 crystarium grids to really shine, especially with a little accessory known as the Genji Glove. Although you won't find it in the story, as you have to upgrade a ribbon to it's maximum. Something that can only be done after you've completed the game... But well worth it, especially for the 100k achievement.

Not really, the only female character with particularly big norks is only in it for a few minutes. All the female main characters are pretty well proportioned, apart from their shoulders which tend to make their heads look too big, also their limbs are a bit too long and thin but that's pretty much par for the course.

Yeah I gotta say, Lightning's legs are really thin, though at least that keeps in line with her athletic combat moveset. Also, it looks like so much emphasis is put on every character's head and face, whilst the rest of their bodies have some truely awful rough edges i.e. Lightning's shoulders and pretty much everyone's hands and fingers. Vanille has some pretty chunky fingers in a couple of close-up scenes. :D

Well at least they have 5 fingers, in FFX in general scenes they had 3, index, thumb and the other 3 were just one giant lump with a few lines down them.

I like to call myself a huge final fantasy fan, but im afraid I just cant get into this one.
