XFX ATI Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition 2048MB GDDR5

have any of you guys turned your fan up to 100% on your 5970's it's stupidly loud at that level lol only been that high once when i manually put it there....never again....

anywho performance wise i have to say i'm also one skint but very happy owner burns through every game i throw at it without a hitch

Mine will be at 100%:)

May as well be, got 2 1u servers in my room, a 2u server and my desktop machine, it sounds like a data centre=)

I bought a Sapphire 5970oc in December 09 to try over my then installed 2x 4870X2`s in quadfire. In 3D Mark 06 using my sig. specs the 4870X2`s got 24673. When i tested the 5970 i got 23992.Both sets of cards were at stock settings. So points wise they are not far apart.I used the beta5 hemlock driver for the 5970.Maybe retesting it now with the 10.3 Cat. those points might be slightly higher for the 5970.
 
Takes some balls to hit the buy button when you’re upgrading to such an expensive bit of kit…..

I thought WFT have I just done when I hit the buy button for a 5870 vapor-x, although I was also buying a whole load more to go with it, and the upgrades were paid for by a family member…. Lucky me..!!

Still, as you say. You work, why not indulge a little. I’m sure you’ll get the card to fit in your 1200, I did struggle though to get a 5870 vapor-x into a 900.

Have to post back and let us know how it performs….. Enjoy your new purchase..

lol wow why so many servers? Downloading 24/7. That's a lot of *cough* p0rn..!! lol Nah just kidding, running a 5970 fan at 100% with that lot in the background will make no difference at all... You'll never hear it. :p

Hehe, they're all old kit from work i dont like seeing going to waste, so i give them a home, at home :D elecy bill can hurt though.. :(

Downloading, test network environments for work projects (hypervisors :D) and my external linux server (hosted in london - im liverpool) is mimic'd at home, so any changes i do there, i do at home first to ensure they work.. nothing worse than a remote box going down :D
 
Not trying to hijack the thread from the performance of the card.

Just a quick eyefinity query. If this card was overclocked to say 1000/1500 - Does it impose any problems with eyefinity? Logic tells me it wont but has anyone encountered any problems with running an overclocked 5970 with eyefinity?
 
It has just arived.

Had about 4 people round my desk at work as i unwrapped it lmao. Working in an IT department it was a fairly interesting unbox:)

Can't wait till 5pm.. Have to sneak it past the girlfriend tho.. :\
 
having shiny kit delivered to work while working in an IT department, where only 3 people are gamers, and none of them know how to build their own machines very well = lots of jealous people who dont know what it is that their jealous about.

Well I own a 5970 ( Sapphire version ) and I must say I have had nothing but problems.

My 1st 5970 I had to rma as it was naffed. My second one is sitting on my desk not being used at the moment. I have had to put my 5870 back in and use that.

I could not work out what the exact problem is with teh new one. Basically if I run anything in full screen I get BSOD. I have tried every driver there is. Also tried in eyefinity with 3 screens and tried it with just 1 screen. Have reinstalled windows countless times.

Basically I have been waiting on the new 10.3 ( and yes I have been using 10.3 pre release ) but anyway going to give the card 1 last test tonight with latest drivers and if still having problems its going back.

If I do send it back I will not be geting another Sapphire I will test out the XFX black edition. If that works good but if not then I will give up on the 5970's and just get a second 5870.

Ill let you know how my install goes tonight when i get home, being the XFX edition.

Im on win7 x64, and shall be using these 10.3 drivers when they're released.

Yeah im going to try out the new 10.3 tonight also. Should be released about 6pm gmt. I have also purchased the Apple mini DisplayPort adapter to test. I have the sapphire one which seems to work fine with my 5870 but when I was doing tests with 5970 it seemed to struggle.

So basically my last test with the Sapphire 5970 is.. Latest Drivers... and single screen. If that works. Then 3 screens with both Sapphire dp adapter and Apple Adapter. If I get problems at all then card is going back and will try XFX
 
Well it's installed. And tbh im not going to review it yet.

It doesnt feel much of a change to my 260's in SLI. Ill review it when i get another hd 5970. Atm i dont feel its anything special for it's expense!

Im going to rebuild my machine, but it literally has gone up 300 3dmarks.

At this moment in time i'd suggest against it, ill rebuild tommorow night and let you know of any changes.
