but theres no real hatred for german cars in this country. Indeed BMWs and Volkswagen / Audi group cars are some of the most popular on the road.

We don't have much in the way of domestic cars to choose from mind, but we do like our near neighbours cars, Germany and France.

thing is, the american car industry was no different to ours in that the unions nearly killed it in the US

whereas they did kill it over here, as BMW could have saved rover, but instead the unions blocked all the modernisations as "not what rover does" and saw the company go under instead. GM are lucky that they have managed to come back from bankruptcy.
