Morons who dislike being overtaken

There is nothing more annoying than people who overtake you whilst doing + 2mph on a dual carrigeway then pull infront of you and duplicate your speed. If anyone does this to me I instantly take my place back, any other time and I don't give a damabout being overtaken as long as it's not dangerous

I've no problem with other cars passing my car.
But the drafting type overtake, where the faster driver will pull right up to the slower car's bumper and swerve out, as if to say 'There! I showed you!' - I don't 'get' that.

You're missing the point with that one. You do that so you have enough speed to be out and back in quickly. Less time on the other side = good in my book.

I'd been in a car with a nutcase doing 120mph to overtake 3 cars in the distance, the two back cars pulled out to overtake the front car which made me make a mess of my pants  Thankfully I was never back in that guys car.

Just yesterday I saw a nissan note sitting in the middle/inside lane of the motorway indicating into a filter lane that had been full for a mile or so back. He/she had slowed from 70 to 20ish and an HGV was heavy on the brakes and flashing his lights lots and the car still sat there in the lane waiting to be crushed. The truck was all over the place/turning into the BMW lane as he couldn't brake in time. How the **** you miss a 40 ton truck covered in lights behind you is beyond me. All for jumping a few cars in the slip road

On the way home from work tonight we had a qashqai stop 10 feet past a junction/cut in, put the hazzards on and let two kids jump in. She then drove for about half a mile with the lights still flashing away, even after my dad flashed her about 3 times. Get to the roundabout change lanes at the last minute......then turn left anyway instead of using the left filter lane.

Had some moron stop half way down a slip road that is about to join an NSL DC so that he could have a convo on his mobile, I nearly made a mess of my pants when I turned around from checking whether the road was clear for me to join and saw a stationary car ahead of me.

Also had some black woman do an emergency stop after she had taken the wrong exit of a roundabout, cue me and 2 cars ahead of me all having to do emergency stops (luckily I simply slipped into the other lane of the DC)

happens to me a lot to, wish i had a serious sleep fiesta so i could abuse them when they attempt to overtake, would be nice to have a st engine in my car, take off the spoiler, and body coloured bumpers, attach a lx badge and change the alloys for plastic wheel covers, would be hilarious tbh

This sort of thing only happens in normal cars. In a fast car, they don't get chance to even catch up once you overtake them :D
i loved driving the Rx. I was being overtaken all the time by saxo's and the like. When i don't take the bait, it must make them feel 2" tall.

In all seriousness though, i can see where the op is coming from. I've seen it all, it's part of the modern day way of driving in that people don't have 10seconds to spare and everyone breaks the speed limitx2 at rush hour.

Just yesterday, i pulled off my drive in front of a Mk4 golf, he casually hung behind me doing 40mph all up the bypass. Right hand lane was clear as and he is still hanging back, so i moved over and overtook some slower moving traffic, he must have thought i was someone up for a race in my 7 seater voyager. He decided there and then to undertake me and fly off into the sunset at 65mph. **** head

I have no problem with being overtaken as long as it’s safe.

Driving in the UK is very aggressive indeed compared to other places. In Canada people undertake lots and generally go about their business. You get the old tailgater for a moment or two before they change lanes and go past. No big deal for most. I did find myself getting a little aggressive when this happened initially but after a month or so you realise nobody cares.

You are probably one of those people who doesnt realise they cannot keep to a set speed. I get this all the time as I set cruise, so you often find yourself coming up behind somebody going 3mph quicker, pull out, go round then by the time you pull in they've increased speed by 3mph without even realising.

In the mornings I sometimes wonder if it's because thay are still half asleep and don't realise how slow they are going until someone tries to overtake them.

This is also true. Hills seem to be the main culprit, as people tend to leave their foot in one place on the accelerator, meaning inclines see a slight decrease in speed, and downhills a slight increase.

Cruise obviously deals with this for you, and as such, those with cruise set (like myself) on motorways/dual carriageways, often find themselves catching, staying level, and then being slowly pulled away from by pulsating traffic who can't grasp maintaining a constant.

Canada must have some of the worst driving and lane discipline I've ever seen. It's also one my mate's biggest gripes about the place, he emigrated to Toronto a couple of years ago and can't stand his commute.

If 'generally go about their business' means sitting in any lane doing any slow speed they want then I agree with you. :D

I can't say I have noticed it as an issue. I do however, wish that people wouldn't feel compelled to sit in the middle lane of a motorway, that really does irritate me, do they think that they are in America? The French are 100% better than the British at lane discipline.

... I snake past them ...
What

I must say, another thing that annoys me is people who seem to enjoy filling up the ending lane where two lanes filter into one.

I was heading into Hindhead the other week (south bound), I pull into single file traffic as it wasn't that busy and there was plenty of time - then people continue to creep up the outside to get 20 meters in front - something I'm convinced is half the problem - having a queue is one thing, having a queue that is having to let stationary cars in the outside lane filter in is going to be worse than twice as slow!

My comments echo the guys who drive similarly high power cars, they are too far behind for me to notice any gestures!

One moment recently that narked me off was a lorry that was blocking two lanes when they were merging rather than letting everyone merge in turn at the end. Once the lanes went back to normal I found the driver, got in front of him and proceeded to do 40, he was seething, trying to overtake and flashing his high beams etc. Utterly pointless on my behalf but it made me feel better:p

thats how merge in turn works. if the lane is still there for 20meters why not use it?

I actually toasted a Subaru Impreza (early one) that looked a bit chaved up the other day, we were going up hill to ...I know he was trying as I could hear it (also he was young with a cap and screached off the lights, so must have been :p ), but I was pulling away and the gap was increasing as the speed increased :D ...I guess that particular Impreza wasn't running perfectly though, it did look passed it's best to be fair.

Oh dear. Someone needs to learn how to drive. :D
