Cat 10.3 coming tomorrow

Preview means you get to play with features in a beta state, as well as experience the extra fps bump, before official release.

I think they realized that someone always leaks their betas so started doing it themselves for enthusiasts? Anyway, nice gesture.

Ok did unigine bench again, with settings at full

unigine2h.jpg

My rig consists of:

Thermaltake Spedo Case
Thermaltake Toughpower 1500w PSU
Asus P6T6 Revolution Motherboard
i7-950 OC at 4.14ghz
Prolimalitech Megahalems CPU cooler
OCZ Gold tripple channel 12gb RAM
Sapphire HD 5970 OC 795/1200 x 2 crossfired.

previous score on 10.2 was 2152, thus a percentage increase of 9%

Heaven increases are approximately 10% over Cat 10.2's for my 5850 @ 1000/1200.

10.2's
1680x1050 = 44.7
1920x1200 = 39.5

10.3's
1680x1050 = 50.0 (11.85% gain)
1920x1200 = 43.6 (10.37% gain)

Dirt 2 now sticks at 60fps on Max settings @ 1920x1200. On 10.2's there were noticeable drops with vsync enabled.

I would concur with this. I am seeing (from the one test I have ran so far) a 9% increase in Unique. I will clock the card and see if I see any further performance improvements as the clock speed increases.

(HD5870 BTW)

I noticed Dirt2 never went above 60fps. Is there any reason why this happens? Fraps just showed 60 all the time. It didn't drop.

Also noticed better performance in FSX also. Getting well over 70fps+ although it drops a bit during turns.

If you have vsync on in a game & your system is capable of sustaining over 60fps it will "lock" @ 60 - always bench with vsync off;)

Ah of course - never thought of that. I found that the game looked not half as good with vsync off.

When should/shouldn't vsync be used?

I am running FSX too and you can limit the fps in its settings but I found it was better when set to unlimited. vSync doesn't work in FSX apparently though with Win 7.

Well my 5850 at 1000/1300 went up by 16% in Heaven benchmarks at 1900 x 1080 dx 11 no aa or af to compare with the leaked Fermi ones.

The Fermi still has a more consistant framerate but my 5850 peaks over 100 fps and doesn't drop below 30 fps anymore so not a lot in it.

That was with my cpu at 3.6Ghz.

I'll do another one later at 1100/1300 and cpu at 4.6Ghz to see how close to the gtx480 I can get.

So far, very impressed by these new drivers and if that means in general the gtx480 has lost it's 5 to 10% performance gain over the 5870 then it's not good for Nvidia as they can't even claim the fastest single gpu anymore.

I'm noticing a lot of glitching with 10.3a, I think when someone looks under the hood they're gonna find some corners cut and cheaty business. :)

How do the mobility drivers install, exactly? I've downloaded them, and its just a 1.1Mb file? I'm not expecting huge things from my HD4200 on my laptop, but squeezing out even 1 fps in WoW would be nice.

Edit: Ran the file, its a downloader program, which is downloaded the actual drivers from the ATI website.

Well, I reinstalled unigine and got the performance I was missing, and after seeing the improvement with the 10.3 driver, I only dipped below 30 FPS once at the dragon, tessellation in this bench is very smooth now compared to what it was.
