Reading around so many people repeat lines like 'save it for the track', 'i never get into races' etc etc...

With this being a motoring forum and a lot having higher perf cars, does no-one honestly exceed speed limits / traffic light gp / have abit of fun on the road from time to time ?

I'd admit to exceeding limits sometimes, but only for quick bursts where I think it's safe...

I also play traffic light GP when challenged, immature maybe but it's fun....

I think people should start being honest, I know it's cool to yell 'save it for the track' on the interweb, but if you really meant that, why have a high perf car on the road ?. No NSL road I know is actually fun at 60mph, not in the slightest... at 80+ they become fun.

Why have 300bhp if you never exceed 60mph ?

Just my 2 pence..

(this post inspired by the morons who don't like being overtaken thread, that tbh had me spitting blood with some of the comments)

I'm usually up for some good safe fun, a couple of months ago I was in my Saab 9-5 Aero at some lights with a 535d next to me, he pulled about 3 car lengths on launch alone, while I pretty much matched him once rolling I don't think I would have caught him, we parted ways at the next island after a few hundred yards.

If conditions are good and the road is quiet (empty) then it's all good.

I regularly exceed the speed limit, as I'll generally drive to the conditions rather than a number on the pole.

I'll also partake in traffic light GPs if they come up, I find it quite amusing.

I'm guessing this was inspired by Snowdog's lol post. I just laughed at how pathetic the post was. It's like these people that come on here sometimes and say "Rite guyz, my m8 finks his 1.1 Saxo is quicker than mi 1.2 Corsa, wich would win in a drag rase?".

That plus the fact it makes me laugh thinking about an estate 2.0 S40 drag racing anything. :D

Of course i like to have "fun" on the road, and i have on occasions given it a small amount of beans from the lights, but i don't carry on up to 120mph. At those sorts of speeds, you need to be utterly focussed on the road and not concentrating on how many car lengths you pwned the car your racing by.

This combined with the fact that Snowdog seems very immature and a typical 18 (?) year old = mass flamage.

I raced an RS4 Avant with a trailer in my CTR once. I got owned. It did have a large intercooler and made loud noises though, sounded awesome.

I also tried to overtake a lilac looking Carrera 4S once. He decided to try and beat me, hanging me out to dry but wasn't quite expecting my car to still be there when approaching a blind crest, the moron. Could have been very messy.

30 = no more than 30, 40 = no more than 40, 50 = no more than 50, NSL is how I best interpret the situation.

So you drive like that but still don't know how to merge in turn and hate people who do? :D

I agree 110%....

Lets face it most 'pole' speeds are set by some fat balding council fool who doesn't know how to drive ;)

I don't drive a performance car, but all the same it's very rare that I exceed the speed limit. I used to drive like I was invincible but then I grew up a bit and realised it was only luck that stopped anyone getting killed.

if its around town, in traffic ill end up sticking to speedlimits, theres nothing to gain by trying to drive quickly.

give me a clear road, ill have a good hoon. i will often go out of my way to include a good road into my drive somewhere

have car, ill take part in TLGP

I cant afford to drive like a nob on the road, if I get caught and given points or even get a ban I loose my race license and im sorry ive worked too long and hard for that to say goodbye to if for 5 mins fun teaching plebs manners on the road , add appaling road surfaces , other traffic and pedestrians , hidden speed cameras and unmarked fuzz.. I think to be honest you need your bumps felt to be racing on the road. Plus the fact that 99% of the time it will be between the lights anyway.. thats not a race thats a " my cars faster than yours " match... you might as well drop your pants and compare the length of your old boy..

how is accel hard from lights or maybe getting up to 80mph in a NSL on a empty road driving like a 'nob' ?

most people don't have race lics, and even if they do spend most time on the roads... I know lots of people with race lics and they still drive quite quick and 'spirited', ie having fun.

having a race lic doesn't mean your any better than anyone else, and the fact you stick to limits like glue and don't have fun on the road is just your choice I guess... (the reason I mention you think your better is the bit you said about 'teaching normal mortals manners by beating them hmmmm :(, your no different than anyone else by your own admission.. your just abit more dull ;))

I have the odd spirited drive, but I never 'engage' with other cars on the road, especially some spotty teen trying to tempt me at the lights etc..

I'm getting to old to have fun, most of the time I'm in my accord which is pretty dull.

Which race licence do you have that will be lost if you're caught speeding?

I appreciate all that and im not making out to be any better than anyone else etc ( I do have 9 years ARDS instructing experiance and a saloon championship title to my name but dont let that get in the way ) ... perhaps im getting older, I just dont see the point in it anymore.. theres nothing wrong with giving your car or bike a blat from the lights if you feel like it, but to sit in a one point bugger all hatchback ( or for that matter a 2 stroke step through) revving the nuts off it in the hope that you can get a race, or tailgaiting the m sport saloon thats just overtaken you on the m way to regain some loss of face IS pointless.. im not the "speed police" and I do enjoy an empty stretch of road but at the end of the day if you want to drive balls out do it on a track, where theres plenty of saftey equipment and nothing but armco to hit... dont do it on the public highway. Thats not preaching... thats just common sense surely?

Because I don't own (and haven't for a long while) owned a car with any reasonable amount of performance, a traffic light GP would make me look like a complete fanny. Putting your foot down in a Vectra just involves a sedate trip up to 70 and lot's of wallowing around corners.
