Be honest!

I appreciate all that and im not making out to be any better than anyone else etc ( I do have 9 years ARDS instructing experiance and a saloon championship title to my name but dont let that get in the way ) ... perhaps im getting older, I just dont see the point in it anymore.. theres nothing wrong with giving your car or bike a blat from the lights if you feel like it, but to sit in a one point bugger all hatchback ( or for that matter a 2 stroke step through) revving the nuts off it in the hope that you can get a race, or tailgaiting the m sport saloon thats just overtaken you on the m way to regain some loss of face IS pointless.. im not the "speed police" and I do enjoy an empty stretch of road but at the end of the day if you want to drive balls out do it on a track, where theres plenty of saftey equipment and nothing but armco to hit... dont do it on the public highway. Thats not preaching... thats just common sense surely?

I guess, but there is something strangely satisfying about leaving a Saxo with a 10 inch tailpipe full of spotty kids 1 mile down the road from the lights. Deflates ego of Saxo driver, jobs a good'un. Maybe will make them rethink the capabilities of their motor and make them a safer driver for it.... *maybe*

I never break the speed limit and certainly don't race anyone at traffic lights. If you think it's OK to do that you need a reality check. It's way too easy to kill someone, even if they're not on the road. There have been two fatalities due to excess speed and lapses in concentration in my local area in the recent past, one an 8 year old girl and one a teenage boy. Neither did anything to deserve losing their life, but some people who think the road is a playground must believe it's OK to risk it, or be plain stupid. With all the cameras it's also very easy to be caught now too, and I think the punishments should be harsher, with more introduction of average speed cameras to stop the crazy driving around the gatso cams, where people slam on the brakes at the last minute and aren't concentrating on the road.

This is why I wonder sometimes how obsessed people on here can be about performance of their cars when they mostly just commute to the office in them. Unless you're running it on the track from time to time, it's really not going to be worth getting a performance car unless you live near some great roads.

Also, bikers don't do themselves any favours, most seem to be impatient idiots, though thankfully they're most likely to hurt themselves and not others.

If you can't drive a car responsibly, I think it should be taken away from you until you've grown up. I know I sound like a stuck up ***, but if you look at this objectively you'll see racing or being stupid on the roads just isn't worth it, and it's essentially a selfish act with no regard for others. It's certainly never worth someone's life.

Very true, but its even more satisfying lapping him for the sixth time in a 20 minuete session , esp when he see's you haul your ( or in my case at least ) fat, grey arse out the car and spark up a marlboro light !

I wonder whats the point of the car you have in your sig then ?, would you poodle along at 60 if you owned it ?

is it your dream to own it and drive like that ?

ps: edit: I've never killed anyone

I'm not even going to deny that one. :D

Unfortunately, idiots in Saxo's, Corsa's, Volvo S40 2.0 with 140ps, will try to catch you up and take stupid risks. This is why i never take the bait and try and "race" a crappy hatchback with a 17 yr old driver on a single carriageway. However, if i see someone slightly older, in a good car, it'd be rude not to have a bit of fun.

Had a bit of A road fun on Sunday with an old Porsche. Was great because neither of us was driving like an idiot to prove we were 1337, the roads were dry, it was warm, sunny and it was very quiet on the roads.

The vast majority of my driving is during the week on business and more often than not I push on at quick motorway speeds. I would like to think I am cognisant of both conditions and locations so you will not see me blasting around town or in areas with housing etc, I pootle in those areas and in little villages when I am maybe 'maintaining pace' on a nice B road leading up to it. The thing you learn with experience and miss as a yoof (I did) is not standing out. If you can make good quick progress without getting noticed then this is good in my mind. You can travel at quick safe speeds easily without getting noticed ask a traffic cop, they do it for a living.

Living and commuting in and around Central London, I generally tend to drive quite slowly. As for "racing", I've surprisingly never really been in the situation of a proper Race. My "thing" is acceleration and the "sense" of speed, sheer numbers do absoultely nothing for me (Having a speedo that doesn't work certainly proved this to me! :p).

I will on occasion open up the taps in 2nd to 3rd gear on an empty, straight bit of road that I know well, but I'll never exceed "My limit" - If I cannot drop down to a reasonable amount of speed on the Overrun alone in 4th, I won't even try.

I do maintain that track driving is far, far, FAR more fun.

Way to miss the point chap.

If I had a lambo I'd take it to the track for sure, that's where it's meant to be. No harm in driving it around town, but if it never saw the track it'd be a total waste.

Also, 60 isn't poodling around town, and it's about 10 mph less than the max speed on a motorway.

I'm glad you've never killed anyone, keep it up. Most people don't, but that's no justification for speeding or being a willy.

Do you really loose your race license?
I dont know about the one you have but you can get a Race license with no Drivers License.

If I decide to "speed" it'll be at my own discretion in an environment which I know it to be safe. We all bang on about it "just being a number on a pole" but at the end of the day the law's the law, and if I get caught speeding (like I did recently) I'll accept the consequences.

The exceptions, as said, are 30 limits and most 40 limits. Many 50s, too, although there are plenty of open road 50 zones that I know of in which I believe are safe enough to have a bit of "fun". NSLs are as fast as I feel is safe, whether that's 30mph along a stupidly narrow NSL lane, or 'more' along a nice open winding one :)

Regarding TLGP, no, I don't bother. I like my drivetrain :) But I do like to accelerate when rolling. Whether some chav in a Saxo is tailgating me who needs to be taught a lesson as the speed limit increases from a 30 to an NSL or not, well that's not my problem. :D

Generally drive quite sedately. Although this might not always be to the speed limit. But rather to the road conditions.

However I do have a REALLY big traffic light GP obsession! Just for the reactions (my car is a bit of a sleeper!) more than anything! Although generally this just manifests as a very quick blip "off the line" then back to normal driving.

Get some a really nice chats with people at lights and car parks/petrol stations from it so it's nice really, although a little more dangerous than if I didn't granted.

I find it pretty hard not to get noticed:p I don't go out of my way to find races but I often attract them quite a bit especially at traffic lights and i'm all for getting away quickly but only up to the reasonable speed for the road and then I just drive normally. I'm a big fan of acceleration rather than high speed.

I have driven fast cars for many years now and I rarely get challenged at traffic lights, probably 2 or 3 times in the last 10 years. I sense if you look for it you'll find it...

I never break the speed limit and certainly don't race anyone at traffic lights. If you think it's OK to do that you need a reality check.

No one is condoning using excess speed in towns/villages/built up areas. I expect the TLGP's people are talking about ITT are the ones on dual carriageways.

I agree.

There have been two fatalities due to excess speed and lapses in concentration in my local area in the recent past, one an 8 year old girl and one a teenage boy.

I suspect the "lapses in concentration" were the reason why they crashed. Anyway, no one is condoning speeding in towns and this is reckless, dangerous and stupid and you WILL get caught out one day.

With all the cameras it's also very easy to be caught now too, and I think the punishments should be harsher,

Why? How is me doing 80mph on a clear motorway endangering life?

with more introduction of average speed cameras to stop the crazy driving around the gatso cams,

Great, so i'm going to be staring at my speedo and i'm going to miss the fact that the whole motorway has ground to a halt and plow into the back of someone.

where people slam on the brakes at the last minute and aren't concentrating on the road.

And why aren't they concentrating? Because they're probably worried about being caught speeding.

This is why I wonder sometimes how obsessed people on here can be about performance of their cars when they mostly just commute to the office in them. Unless you're running it on the track from time to time, it's really not going to be worth getting a performance car unless you live near some great roads.

I live near plenty of great roads. Is it ok for me to be "obsessed" with performance car's now?

I dont know about the one you have but you can get a Race license with no Drivers License.

There are exceptions sometimes, but certainly when I had my MSA National B and then A licenses a road license was needed in my case.

I doubt if losing your license for racing on the road will be a valid exception, unless racing is your job or something.

60mph is not fast, nor does it feel fast on any NSL road.

It's called having fun m8, and 60mph on your average a / b road just isn't

A Lambo ain't built for the track, it's a road car...unless I'm mistaken.
