Time off for the world cup

I won't be taking time off for the evening games but I will be watching the afternoon games in the pub. There is no way I'd miss an England game!

For the evening games I'll be hosting a BBQ and make a night out of it for all my mates. Get in!
 
I'm suprised at the number of people who appear to be shocked at people taking time off. It is a huge sporting event which comes about every four years and creates a nice atmosphere.

I remember people on GTA forums taking days off work to play GTA IV when it was released to complete it. Now it'd be understandable to be shocked at that.

I'm a student so will have plenty of time off to watch it :)

Not really, people take time off to do whatever it is they love doing. If that's watching football, playing games, going travelling or simply watching paint dry, if they love doing it then what gives anyone the right to pour scorn on them for doing so?

As for me, I won't be taking any time off. As much as I love football I couldn't justify the days off, plus with working in a school I wouldn't stand a chance of getting the holiday anyway. I'll just try to watch the games online if I can, that'll be the best I could manage while in work.
