Be honest!

I er, know how to enjoy myself. Luckily the 2 cars I have access to (Opel Manta GT/Mk2 Golf GTI) are not exactly rocketships and my fun can be had at lower speeds than modern machinery, where you often have to be seriously motoring to get on the ragged edge, and when you overstep the mark you are going much, much too quickly to be able to rescue it....

I hate to admit it but I have taken part in a couple of TLGPs.

I used to have a 4 litre Jaguar XJS and when I went driving later on in the evening, if I drove to a certain part of town all the boy racers would pull alongside and rev their Saxos. The XJS is of course a barge but could hold its own in a straight line so I indulged.

Now I have an MX-5 and I like to go out when it's quiet and fling it around B-roads like a maniac. I am restrained in town during the daily grind and in built-up areas. The beauty of the MX-5 is that it's fun, but slow, and you can thrash the **** off it and rev the engine without really going anywhere fast enough to be silly.

Also, everyone knows if you're going to sit in the fast lane on the DC/motorway you'd better be doing at least 80, or you're going to be a pain in everyone else's ass. So, I don't think anyone really respects speed limits unless there is a camera around or a car in front of them holding them up. Unless they have a vagina of course.

I took a Bentley out last night, and certainly busted through the posted speed limit a few times. But I won't do it in any 30 zone, or through villages/towns/any residential zone.

And yes, it's not my car. But the owner specifically told me to rag it.....so I ragged it :D

Ragging a bentley? How very uncouth :D

I tend to be fairly cautious around town, and busier dual carriageways, but I will put my foot down now and then when traffic and conditions allow on dual carriageways. Traffic light grand prix or racing though....no thanks, too easy for plod to have you. Nobody seems interested either despite me driving a Fiesta ST, which you'd think would attract boy racers from miles around.

Motorway driving I have to say I do tend to go rather fast, just because its so damned boring otherwise :(.

On a good twisty NSL road when traffic allows and the conditions/mood is right however, I can't resist going a little quicker - had a brilliant run along the A458 last week (on the way from Wolverhampton to Aberystwyth) around Friday lunchtime, perfect hot hatch territory. Decent car, decent weather, great road....no point in having a sporty car if not to enjoy it.

I never speed in towns, well not by more than 20kph max, but usually a lot less.

On the motorway I keep it fairly sensible, again within 20kph of the limit.

However, on the open road and in the mountains I frequently drive/ride my cars/bikes within an inch of their lives. It's what I live for along with a few other very important things, and I make no apologies for it

After getting banned for exceeding the motorway speed limit i rarely exceed 99mph.

I would normally sit at 85mph on a motorway if traffic conditions allowed, i find speeding is a lessor of evils and would never ever tail gate and i think that lack of road knowledge is also far worse, like people that swear blind when taking a duel lane round about they can go in whatever lane they want.

I dont speed in towns, i would rather use other tricks to nip around in traffic, such as picking the right lane, or going in the turn left lane at the front of the que and going straight to nip in, i only employ these cheats in London and normally i would be calm in city and keep my whitts about me for other bad drivers.

Country roads, i normally exceed nsl in places i beleive are appropriate in which horses or tractors are unlikely to pull out and i do often make progress in the early hours when doing large road trips.

traffic light gp's are pointless as 9/10 you will be stopping at another light in 100m and i tend to ignore badboys wanting to race as its pointless.

30 = no more than 30, 40 = no more than 40, 50 = no more than 50, NSL is how I best interpret the situation.

this, never had any points or warnings, do 20k a year, ifs your obs is poor enough to get caught, you are driving to fast.

saying that, i did just take my old e30 325i for a spin, v. sideways, bound to be dangerous!

I get challenge all the time, probably because I drive a chaved up Astra with a loud exhaust, I'm sure that will change when I get my new car.

I have a bit of fun from time to time but I must admit I seldom stick to limits.

In London you have to go with the flow, and be assertive else you get nowhere - no one sticks to the limits in town around here.

I drive a diesel Avensis. It's not actually possible to have fun in this car.
It's too old to even suffer from the recent problems so can't look forward to a failing brake to spice things up.:(

I'll almost always stick to the limits, except on a motorway/dual carriageway cruise.

There's absolutely no place for racing in built up areas as some people seem to think is acceptable (although not round here I must say). On a cruise, I'll just go with the flow of the traffic, which seems to normally be closer to 80 than 70. If you're doing 70, you're getting overtaken by most other cars but still need to get past the lorries and things.

The only times I get "raced" in my current car are on motorways, those annoying people who speed up when you start to pass them in the right hand land - it's often easier to deal with them with a dose of right foot. The Mondeo isnt really built for hooning, but I do enjoy it where possible and safe. Oddly, I seem to get phat corsas racing me off the lights quite often - think they mistake my ZS for an ST, I just let them get on with it and pull away at a normal speed... I'm in a diesel mondeo, I have nothing to prove :)
