Our A4 cost a QUARTER of what you roughly say you paid. The same shape and only 3 years older too :p.

Not exactly like for like is it? He's got a car that's 3 years newer than yours with top spec, leather, 4WD, 6cyl engine etc You've got a £600 base spec banger rust bucket with no history with all sorts of things that need fixing on it.

It's like me saying I bought a 2007 318, and I paid less than half the price of a 2010 335i.

Nope, '99 2.8 quattro, 100k on the clock. Like this, but white.

OT but.....

1. What sort of average mpg you getting with that 2.8
2. Any problems with the 4WD / diff?
3. Is it an auto? If so, any probs?

Comparing a 1995 Audi A4 to a 1998 Audi A4 is by far a more relative comparison than trying to compare a 1998 Audi A4 with a 03ish Passat.

And don't make assumptions about people's car based solely on price, It can make you look silly - Our has No rust (They're all galvanised...), FSH, was Speced with climate control/AC and hasn't gone wrong in 8 months (apart from a £10 serpentine belt).

My car is an SE with no service history and hasnt been looked after.

For the price of a mint interior in leather (1k) i can sell mine and add money to buy a highline thats newer has done less mileage etc.

I dont want a 99 A4 so why should I buy one just cos you paid less. You didnt say what condition, mileage etc it was in.

Anyway no one has actually answered the question, just 27 replies full of **** but what else can you expect here ?

The motors forum here is an embarrassment to itself quite often, but the 'in crowd' feed each others ego.
Your questions would be better answered on an owners club.
it's a damn shame really :(

If you are going to insult the forum and its regulars because of what you perceive to be unfair treatment of a poster, you would be well advised to check back on that posters posting history a bit to verify whether your perception is correct or not. Context is everything.

Mad Rapper was obviously frustrated at the way twoblacklines came across...

It was harsh, fair enough. I just got annoyed because they guy posted asking for advise, didn't like what he was told then started slagging everyone off who had taken the time to reply.

Just wound me up.
