Milestone vs Desire vs iPhone vs BB... help me decide!

I guess with the Desire you have a nice fast 1gig snapdragon processor so that's going to be fast as, with the integration of Sense UI will be a nice phone the only real problem with Android phones atm is the lack of installing on sd card, i know there a ways round it but its a pain in the butt tbh, i understand google are working on the problem

I've not noticed it as much of a problem tbh, you can use the SD card for storage from apps still

Get hacking: Apps2SD :D Don't use it myself, but I have yet to find the "lack of space" an issue, even with Google Earth installed, and thats a HUGE app.

Main reason they're dragging their heels is that atm the SD cards are hot-swappable and there is a fear of people not buying apps from the market any more, once Google works out a way to stop the piracy that SD card installs could cause then I think we'll see it become a reality :)

I tried that apps2sd when i had my Hero and it just ended up wiping my memory card so never bothered again, people are getting round the apps thing anyway my mate buys a app then backs it up on his phone with astro file manager then uninstalls it, gets a refund and a working app.

I am yet to find any apps that are worth using tbh only app i have payed for is beautiful widgets, just use a handful of free ones that's about all i have on mine.

Stick with the Iphone.

Ah - bit of a Fanboy are we?
Second thread you've just said "Buy an iPhone".

We've just got a load of iPhones in at work - corporate account moving from Vodafone to O2 so we got some good pricing.
Personally I wouldn't want one - after playing with one for a while it really doesn't seem worth it.

Don't get me wrong - I'd pay the price we've got these first handsets at £87 for 16GB, £102 for 32GB.
But I wouldn't personally pay full price for one.

I'm very pleased you got some in at work and you wouldn't want one.

In reply to the OP. Just get your iphone fixed.

If you're that desperate for a keyboard go for one that feels nice, my Dads BlackBerry is nice to use.

Iphone is a great phone but its falling behind other phones on specs something Apple need to address with there new one, had a go on me bro's 3g and i can't get how poor the screen looks now compared to using the milestone that has higher rez screen, times moved on now they need to also.

Never noticed anything wrong with the screen on the iphone, looks fine?

There's nothing wrong with it at all, but to understand the point about the milestones screen, drop the resolution on your monitor to slightly over half what its currently set at. On one hand it doesn't look bad, but once you've tried higher res you won't go back :)

Sums it up really ^ when i use me brothers iphone there is nothing wrong with it but because i use a higher quality screen its very noticeable to me as everything is so much sharper and brighter on mine where as things look washed out and lower rez on the iphone to me.

If they release a new iphone in June time i will be amazed if it hasn't got a higher quality screen than on the current models.

Fair point.

Id be seriously surprised if they changed the resolution of the screen, it would break comparability with every app which is the phones only selling point other than fashion over the competition.

The ipad can get away with it because it just scales the apps x2 but thats not going to happen on a device so small.

  • Get a milestone, which I do like the look of especially with the physical keyboard, I know there are some niggles with the current version with MP3 playback, but lower specs on the phone, this'll cost me £35\month (tinternet + US\Canada booster)

I'd either stick with the iPhone or go for the desire, but if you are still considering the milestone i'd strongly recommend you play with one for a while first - you mentioned the physical keyboard being a big plus for you, my best mate has one and I found the keyboard a big disappointment (very flat keys, no space/seperation between them, not very tactile).

The milestone keyboard is perfectly usable, it takes a few days to get the hang of but I can happily whack out extended messages with it now. On the other hand, I have been trying to use the touch keyboard and it is nigh on impossible, I just can't get any sort of speed out of it. I can't see myself forfitting physical keys any time in the future.

The standard Android touch keyboard isn't very good i am running the same one that's on the desire now and that's much better and you get the multitouch on the different keys.

I must admit to not using the milestone physical keyboard much and for that reason i am getting rid and going to get a Desire, i am not a big Sense UI person after having it on my old hero so will put it as a stock nexus 1 as i prefer the 3d launcher.

I'm going to wait until the HTC Supersonic and iPhone 4G are announced and then make my decision based on the information that comes available then. If I had to make a decision excluding these two handsets I'd go for the desire.
