Metro: 2033, trailer

Likely because you are runing at a lower res and on high, most here are running at higher settings

Fair enough but it certainly doesn't justify all these 'totally un-optimised' 'completely ******' etc comments.
With some moderate tweaking, it looks great & uses the power of the respective computer well.
And it seems to run great on ATI cards, despite what some people are saying.

No you don't understand. It's unplayable despite the framerate. The pauses are constant in any action and it becomes like a slideshow. Fraps reports a high framerate but the dips in framerate are so short that fraps does not get a chance to register them properly before the framerate shoots up again. And then it's rinse and repeat.

If I wasn't running fraps, I would say that the framerate appears to be in the teens and below.

I see. Well, I am just installing it now so we'll find out how it runs for me.

shame Nvidia pay so much to sleep with the developers of every game ..
in these shots I'm doing about 18 frames a sec ...what I really hate is if I try to change some settings you get down to 1 frame a second and it takes 5mins to change the settings back...think ill have a look and see were the cfg files are ...

Well I am surprised. Sure there are some moments where the frames plummet quite a bit but overall most of the time I am getting 30 - 90 (up to 120 +) fps on maxed out dx10.
It was a bit shaky to start with but certainly playable. Some of the graphics are the best I have seen.

The pauses and stutters in action moments seem to be related to audio in much the same way as the Source Engine had audio problems on first release.
If they can iron out these problems and get it running smoothly on a decent rig (both Nvidia AND ATI) then this engine will be the most gorgeous and immersive world for any fps shooter.

The detail is tremendous but I don't think these high detail and effects are causing the pauses.

tried fidling with the audio settings?

I've spent 2 days fiddling. Managed to get it playable until the first firefight in the tunnels. The gunfire audio just makes the whole damned thing stutter like mad.

I've even tried third party Creative drivers.

This game runs like a POS on my rig;

[email protected], 4GB DDR3, Asus Formula III, HD5870.

Is this a bug in the game, I.e. something that might be sorted over time ?

Feel really let down.

Hopefully, they'll sort it. ATI may release drivers to increase performance.
There is definite biasing against the ATI cards and in my case, the audio seems to be a factor.
I remember years ago, there was a similar issue with a game on Nvidia. The audio SEEMED to be the problem but in fact it was the graphics drivers.

What sound cards?

The guys who are running this game smoothly, especially if you are using an ATI card, what sound cards do you have and are they PCI or PCIE?

I'm convinced my 4870X2 has more than enough horsepower to run this game smoothly. Fraps puts my framerate above 100fps most of the time and even when it stutters, it only seems to come down to about 70 or 80 fps. It's got to be audio related.

I've tried putting my X-Fi into the other PCI slot but no change. I'm wondering whether a PCIE sound card would do the trick.

try running it without any hardware acceleration.

I don't think you can alter hardware acceleration in win 7 64 bit. At least I haven't found the settings yet as the same idea occurred to me.

Anyone know if you can alter hardware acceleration with win7?

This is it in high setting on an 8800GT/4gb/[email protected]

It will play fine then randomly drop to 4/5 fps then go back up. Does the same in low/medium/high/very high. Both in tunnels and built up areas

the graphics look nice, but hearing about the boring gameplay, boring monsters, weapons and the weak performance i think i am going to pass
which is a shame as i was looking forward to this

I'm thinking I'll pass for now, but pick it up later when a) it's dropped in price, b) has hopefully had a few performance issues ironed out with patches, and c) I have a better GPU :p
