Ideas for a first car..

Skoda Felicia, Ford Mondeo and Ford Ka.

Wait so you went from a Mondeo to a Ka because you 'got bored'?

Why not accept the fact you cant have a Ferrari aged 17 and just stick with something half decent, accepting the fact nothing you can insure is going to thrill you every single time you drive it without fail, and nothing you drive in the future will if you heamorrage money on pointless car changes?

Its simple.

Ford Escort 5 door 1.6, quite nippy, comfy, very cheap to repair and if looked after right will last you a while.

Can pick a decent one up for well within your budget and i reckon you could easily get the insurance under your budget.

I paid £1800 from quinn direct on my Escort when i was 17 for referance.

Why would ANYONE recommend an Escort? (RS Cosworth excepted).

You said that you went to the Ka because of insurance, not because it would be more exciting. I'm here because you mentioned the Ka which is a clown car. So I got involved.

Have things changed that much in 5 years. When I was 17 most normal average cars were around the £1200 mark to insure and I went for the boy racers favourite - Saxo VTR which was less than £2k to insure. And now I almost feel sick thinking how much I paid to insure my first car.

My first car was a 306 XLTD, It was very cheap to buy and pretty cheap to insure (£800 i think), although i was about 23. But insurance was still an issue things like 1.1 saxo, Ka, etc were around £700. Never had a single problem with the 306 in the year that i had it too. Think the newer HDI version is better though, and well within your budget.

I felt physically unwell when Frizzell told me they wanted £900 to insure my first 309 GTI. Most kids would do somersaults if they got a quote like that today :D

Agreed, it's astounding.

I did agree, but come to think of it, when your paying that much for insurance wouldn't it make you be more careful not to crash? If it was cheap then it wouldn't really matter if you crashed because you could just get another cheap car and do it again.

Anyway, if you pay monthly it would only be around £200, and by next year, it has to go down.:D
