some people are stuck on unreliable copper, there only options are unreliable copper with isp A through unreliable copper with isp Z. I luckily have a reliable copper connection, my exchange is not congested and my lines are free from faults. I do unfortunately have issues with routers locking up (no routers will solve this issue) probably due to high internal loads that consumer routers/hubs can't deal with so well. If my copper was bad, or my exchange was congested, I would have to live with it, no cable in my area, BT won't be here with their new network for atleast another year and virgin would never lay cable near me.

Personally I'd move house.

I cant remember the last time I had to reboot my router.

At the end of the day though if you dont meet the technical reqs for the game then you cant play it - no different to having a crap CPU or graphics card.

Some people are stuck with only one provider in their area.

Others look to buy the cheapest connection as they don't intend to leech from newzgroups all day or play much online multiplayer games. So having a standard connection for web browsing should be adequate.

Hows it any different to making a game DX10 only for example? Or non XP compatible.

Seems people should be complaining to their ISP's? Ok so you may not max out your download speed on ADSL but you should at least get a constant connection.

devs/ms trying to push people on dx10/vista/w7 is not the same as devs forcing you to have a stable connection, which not everyone can physically get access to.

you seem to be fine with the fact that one day, you might not be able to play a SP game simply because your internet is down/the auth servers are down/you're on a train, I'm not. If they used this in a MP game, I really wouldn't care (mainly because you need to be online all the time anyway

)

Because you can see a difference in game when you're running it in DX10 at least. Having to connect to internet on singleplayer game does not add anything to your experience of the game.

Because there is supposed to be some benefit to DX10, etc, which improves the game.

Where is the benefit (to a SP game) of an always-on internet connection?

It was intended to try and crack down on Piracy (we all know it won't work, but thats a different matter).

Just because it's "always on" that doesn't mean it's 100% reliable.

Also there's a lot of places in this country that doesn't have fibre so cable isn't an option. Some of these places are also too far away from an exchange to have decent ADSL.

It's clear that a lot of you are either naive or ignorant to what broadband is like in this country.

It's different because not upgrading your hardware / software is a choice you've made, you can only choose from what internet connections are available in your area.

I thought so too, then I remembered my most played game this week, Anno 1404, which is still quite a good game imo.

All the other rubbish especially FPS coming from them is **** though and not even worth downloading.

DX10 improves the graphical aspects of the game and makes it pretty. This draconian DRM only penalises users who do not have a permanent internet connection.

Read my post a page back - you'll see that there are real people not living in your perfect, always connected, little world...

Just because someone has an extremely bad internet connection, doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to play a game due to hideous DRM. (Unless it was online only play I suppose...)

Why not though? Good way to get out of developing for the PC. I don't need to have my Xbox online when I stick in a game.
