Ok, I know theirs twenty plus "spec me a car" threads every day but I would love your help to choose a particular type of car, So help me damn you!!!

Anyway, just got off the phone to a well known industrial company that have just offered me secound year entry into their apprenticeship scheme.

So I'm here asking, no pleading with you demi-gods of the motors section to help me pick a new car.

I will be purchasing the car in august as thats when my insurance for the current shed (Proton:(:( ) runs out.

I will be 22, i have 3 years no claims.

i have a budget of 2.5k to 5k to spend (currently have 1.5k in savings should have twice that or more by deadline)

Im Six foot Six, so most small cars are out of my comfort zone.

i will be doign 35miles a day mixed, driving 2-3 people.

I would love a car with decent mod cons as in previous cars i havent had any luxuarys (that work)

and finally one small point "no french cars" ive had too many nightmarish dealing with their support group.

So in essence guys and gals spec me a car please i have cookies

Ford Mondeo.

Comfortable, good to drive, reliable, all the mod cons, new for your money, cheap to run, make sure its a petrol one, good for 3 people in it.

And you dont need to wait for your insurance to expire before you buy a new car.

You might want to try reading a bit, then you might find out.

I lurk here a lot. All I see are people recommending Mondeos. I'm sure they're good cars, but I can't figure out why they're so much better than any other car in the price range.

Is that some sort of a joke? He specifically asked for a decent car.

Which is why I am so suprised you consider the mondeo, given its only good for learning to drive in, perhaps a touch of shopping ;)

but I can't figure out why they're so much better than any other car in the price range.

Go on then, suggest a car in the same class and price range, that is better value and a better drive than the Mondeo as an all round package?

Sure, there are cars I'd buy (as would other people on the forum) instead, but typically these are the kinds of cars (and kinds of people) that you KNOW you want (or know what they want), and as such aren't particularly good recommendations for someone who just wants a "decent car" for getting from A to B in, without worrying about having the pinnacle of automotive engineering, passion, soul, or sacrificing age/mileage for something more interesting.

As a modern a to b car that's ok to drive, practical, reliable, comfortable and fairly cheap to run there isn't anything else in the same price range that's better. It's easy enough to find something that does a few of those things better but the Mondeo is an excellent compromise as it doesn't do anything badly.

I may be slightly biased as I've bought one but that was only after deciding it was the best compromise as a "normal boring" car.
