Budget 2010

Sucks for me

I'm about to complete my house move tomorrow thus meaning I'm still going to be stung for Stamp Duty

Stock up on the cider now! Has he stated the duty on normal alcohol though? All I understand is that it's going to "rise". - Ah just saw it, a 2% rise. Glad I brew my own, costs a bloody fortune as it is.

Not going to be a great budget, there's very little they can actually do at this stage in the game (both recession & election wise).

Alcohol duty will rise and that on cider specifically will go up by 10% from midnight tonight. Smokers will also pay more as tobacco duty will increase by 1% immediately, then 2% in subsequent years.

Oh, I see, he's going to scam us with fuel duty.

Instead of sticking 3p on it in April, he'll put 1p on it 3 times in the next year.

Net result: The same.

But its still cheaper for the consumer the way they have done it. Would you prefer to be paying the extra 3p for the entire year?

Getting a little bored of "Labour saved the economy", can you actually tell us what you are doing to save it more rather than patting yourself on the back please?

Another quango! This one to look at credit applications that are denied. And then somehow "force" banks to give out credit I guess?

looks like stamp duty for 1st time buyers is set to be scrapped :)

my m8 who just completed on a house will be annoyed :P

He has plainly said that the tax rise will be 3% over the course of the year, in three 1% stages. There is no scam.

The whole "we are wonderful because RBS & Lloyds have lent x amount to small businesses" is a bit of a red Herring surely?
They are clearly making money from this, and it's what banks ought to do. If they were providing grants and bursarys to these companies I can see the point but this escapes me...

So if I complete next month, I will be exempt from stamp duty?

As long as your house is under 250k then yeah

Looks like the limit is being raised as of midnight tonight..... quick phone call to my solicitor is in order :)

That’s all the we will hear until the election, “We saved the economy, we saved you and we saved the world.” I'm sure that the environment will also get a mention. ;)

One for the Daily Mail readers:

Cuts will be made to housing benefit paid to those in very expensive properties, the chancellor says.

Will probably save next to nothing but looks good in the gutter press.

This is what I posted on another forum, but edited due to OCUK rules

....

******* money grabbing bunch of left wing ******* ****pots Labour are.

Taxes up, alcohol duty up, fuel duty up, public sector spending up (2.2% I think the ****** said).

I have a better idea, how about you cut taxes, stop raping us on duty, sell the shares in the banks (BACK to the banks at above market price - ie at what we paid for them + inflation) and then cull the useless ******* working in the public sector (non frontline NHS/police/fire etc)
