The Big WWE Wrestling Thread

Whats everyones plans for wrestlemania? Anyone staying up or catching the replay(aka dl).

I think I'll get the HD replay like I did last year as I don't even have sky tv anymore. Wish I could watch it live but I actually prefer being able to pause it at any time.

Gonna have to stock up on Doritos, pop corn and beer for monday. :D

I'll probably watch it Monday or Tuesday, my dissertation is due in on the Thursday so the plan is to finish it Monday/Tuesday and print it - after that I can watch TV stuff for the past week and a bit

BTW, Taker just turned 45

EDIT: and ...
Former WCW and WWE World champion Bill Goldberg announced via his twitter account that he in the midst of discussions with World Wrestling Entertainment.

"YES.. I am in negotiations with the WWE Looks like 'ole Hogan and TNA missed the boat. Shame for the fans they didn't even try. Anyone got any issues on the TNA side I suggest you bring it up with them. Truth is I never thought I'd even consider it........then came my son. No one said I'd wrestle but the door is open again"

Just wondering what some peoples favourite matches are, irrelevant of promotion or decade :)

For me, one of my absolute favourites is Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn at Hardcore Heaven 2000

Part two easily found on youtube... I'm pretty sure it's next in the playlist on this video.

It's Van Dam's first match after breaking his leg (legit) and returning to action... they don't miss a beat in this match and everything clicks. It's the return match from Living Dangerously 99 when Lynn suffered a cracked skull (again legit) during the match, which is also an absolutely phenomenal match.

Closely followed by Bret vs. Owen at Wrestlemania 10.
That was my favourite match for a hell of a long time until I saw that RVD vs Lynn match on video back in 2001 or so :)

Brother vs Brother at wrestlemania, it could have easily have been a main event, and I don't think I've seen a better opener at a PPV ever.
Part 2 and 3 can be found pretty easily on Youtube :)

The build up was brilliant, Owen trying to step out of his brothers shadow for this first time in his career... One of the best fueds in the 90's bringing some awesome matches including the legendary steel cage match at Summerslam later that year. Such a tragedy that Owen was taken from us so soon... he had such unlimited potential and was a brilliant human being.

The best ECW opener I ever saw also came from Hardcore Heaven 2000, Ball Mahoney vs Masato Tanaka... my first exposure to Tanaka was when I bought this VHS as well - I went out and bought everything I could with him in it from ECW and FMW from that point :)

How deluded is Vince?
Vince on TNA said:
It doesn't speak well for the type of product they're trying to present with the tawdry, blood-soaked action. I don't think that's what the culture wants these days.

For all TNAs failings, having an attitude era product is NOT one of them.

I agree. If it wasn't for the attitude era then the WWE probably wouldn't have come on top against WCW.

Imagine going back 11-12 years with the WWE today against WCW things would have been a lot different

Perhaps for the fans that grew up with the WWE(F) but just look at how much WWE and Vince makes from this PG wrestling. I expect merchandising, toys etc are making far more money now than it was during the Attitude era.

Whilst I would love the WWE to go back to the Attitude era, when your company is making Billions do you really think Vince is going to dump all those Parents and Kids?

Though saying that I do expect the WWE to go back to the Attitude era, when this current generation of Kids hits the right Age Certificate. We that grew up in the late 80's, early 90's PG wrestling where the driving force behind the number of viewers behind the Attitude era and I expect it to come full circle.

What? Vince commented on TNA? Source? I don't believe he said that or even watches TNA.

I was watching attitude era while being 10 or 11, so don't give me this whole "PG is for kids" - kids love being able to get away with watching a product aimed a few years ahead of them, attitude era was only TV14 anyway, not like it had porn on it.
Attitude era merch sales were also pretty good, and both heels and faces sold very well - unlike now, when the largest Merch sales are for Cena, with HHH somewhat behind.

There is nothing about Attitude Era (or the time just after that when Rock etc were still around) that would still not do well right now. For the record the UK show is still rated 15, and has always been rated that afaik.
Having "hell" "ass" "****" etc beeped out is stupid, just look at the Austin promo other week - and he wasn't even allowed to flip the bird. In fact, the reason he even had beer to drink is probably because Vince didn't know that was going to happen.

The PG era is because Linda is running for Senate or something or other.

Once she fails we will hopefully get something better back on our TV screens.

I don't think we will ever get anything like the attitude era back again. WWE don't like taking risks anymore with dangerous spots. They'd rather keep all their wrestlers injury free.

I wouldn't say that Attitude had more dangerous spots than now, overall. Yes you had the through a cage into the ring things (like Mick Foley) ... but then again that is what Mick does, plus before you had HBK and Owen descend from the roof.

EDIT:
During a live chat on the Arizona Republic website, John Morrison was asked how long he thinks it will take before he arrives onto the main event scene. Morrison listed John Cena as the current WWE champion and called him ‘boring’.

“Who’s champion now? Cena? Ugh. Boring. Yeah, I think my time is coming,” Morrison said.

Though Cena is not champ

Oh, and I'm calling it right now ... Goldberg vs Cena for WM27 :D

are you kidding me? The attitude era was the most violent time in wwe. Just look at the Rock/Mankind match from the Royal Rumble in 1999.

Theres no way they would do anything like that again.

He kinda is.

Tista is just a transitional champ just now, just like Jericho.

As I said before, that is what Foley does he takes the bumps in hardcore matches - the Rock didn't really take any huge spots in that match overall
If you exclude Foley (and head chair shots), then Attitude Era was not that much worse than current.

Really looking forward to this event, after the shambles that was last years Mania this year has just got potentially show stealing match after show stealing match

Would love to think there's a chance of Jericho retaining & Sheamus beating Triple H but alas I doubt it :(
