4 out of 5 BMW 1-series owners think their car is FWD

I love the opinions of some people on this forum.

Why the hell do people draw the conclusion that just because people don't know what drivetrain a car has they are morons.

Gotta agree with the above.

People are forgetting that this is the motors section so most will know and more importantly be interested in that type of info but your general joe public won't be.

I know a bit about cars but my wife doesn't care about the mechanics, to her when she blips the remote and it unlocks, when she get gets in and the car starts, when she puts it into gear and it moves that's all she cares about as the car to her is then doing it's job.

Also agree with Janesy B that certains driving conditions will dictate the behaviour of the car so knowing about the car can be important, for the recent bad weather we had I just told her to be gentle with the acceleration, steering and braking. :)

Maybe to a petrol-head, yes. To someone just buying a car, to drive, rather than fap over, no.

To be fair, it is pretty important to know how your car might react in the event of an emergency situation, though. Caring whether its FWD or RWD? Yes, thats petrolhead. KNOWING? I'd say its pretty important.

I have a feeling many would just misinterpret the question and answer based on the fact that the engines at the front?

I know loads of people that think driving for almost a full year with the engine management light on is normal etc. Id imagine a similar level of people would be oblivious in there car not just bmw 1 series drivers!

^ Indeed.

Heck some people ask me if my car is an M3.....to which I sadly sigh and mumble no :(

Still, fun car =D

To be fair, it's like the fisher price "My first bmw", for people who can't really afford a proper bmw but just want the badge.

Or maybe they just liked it more than the 3/5 series?

Shock horror I know, but people have opinions and like certain cars.

I'm trying to figure out if people are being serious or just trolling. I certainly understand where the bad rep BMW drivers get comes from now.

To be fair, I would love a 3 or 5 series, but it's just too big for me at the moment, i don't need a car that big.

I love my 1 series because it's got enough room if I need it, big boot and 5 seats, but at the same time it's a nice little hatchback. And I can fling it round corners, get enough speed (for me) out of it when I want and it's economical. It's got all the benefits of a hatchback to me, yet it's got the luxury, gadgets and interior of a BMW, and I've always loved BMWs

When I get my next car, I will get myself a 3 or 5 series. But for my second car and second year of driving, this is perfect for what I need and want

Never will understand this.

I really really wanted a 5 Series, and it's too big for me - I don't need a car that big.

So I bought one anyway because who cares? It's not as if I get fined if I don't fill my boot with stuff and put 3 people on the back seat.

Not surprising really.

Clueless people buy the 1 series.
Clueless people don't know about cars.
And they wonder why the back of the car steps out in the wet and why they can't drive on snow :p

Totally wrong, I have a 1 Series company car and I love it. Its only for 3 years and then i'll get another car I fancy. Maybe a A3 or A4. I would never buy one out right as you don't get much for your money.

Its also a really nice FWD BMW...... ha!

It's not a difficult concept to understand?

I don't want a car that I consider too big! I don't mean too big as in dimensions, I mean to me, it's more of a family sized car or for someone who spends a lot more time in it than I would.

It's a matter of opinion, it's why some people don't like hatchbacks because they're "too small".

Not when you simply say you don't want something, but to say you'd 'love' a 3 or 5 Series and then give a non-tangiable reason why you cant have one is a bit strange.

Its like some sort of unwritten law that you must have a certain type of car if you certain demographic.

Most people with larger cars dont buy them because they need a large car. I mean look at the Mercedes S Class. Do people who buy those need the space? I'd imagine the vast majority of them need no more space than a Golf can provide, yet they still chose the S Class.

If you flat out don't LIKE larger cars then its totally different - but you said you've love one but cannot have one because of the size.

I would love one, but not at this point in my life. When I have a family, definitely, or if I ever need to do a large commute to work, definitely. Right now with a 7 mile round trip to work and just myself, I just think it's too big for me and I'd just prefer the 1er

not everyone buys a car because it's RWD and has 50:50 weight distrubtion coupled with a perfect chasis.
Some people want image, looks, economy, price etc etc

To be fair with a 7 mile round trip to work and just yourself the obvious question is what are you doing in a 2 litre diesel hatchback, it arguably makes even less sense than some sort of petrol saloon :p
