Corsa VXR *facepalm*

Exactly, the Astra is a good car that is in the same league as the Focus, the Civic, the Corolla/Auris and so on.
The Corsa is a crapbox on wheels, much like the Micra, the Yaris etc.

So your issue it that it is a small hatch, not that its a corsa.

IMO the basic Astra is not particularly good at anything, and significantly inferior to the equivalent Focus

Except the 3 series as a whole is a decent car, a bit fat and heavy, but still decent

Who cares what the base level is like? If a Clio 1.2 Campus is totally rubbish, does that mean the 182 Cup is crap? If a Focus 1.4 Studio is rubbish, is that relevant to a Focus RS? Sorry to be blunt, but you are totally contradicting yourself and making yourself seem like an ignorant idiot.

I don't care what the base car is like, but as I said, a pig with lipstick is still a pig.

I like small hatches, I just don't like crappy ones like the Corsa VXR.
I like mental ones like the Clio V6, older Fords. Hell, a Twingo RS.

The Corsa VXR isn't actually that bad to drive! A tad bit under powered for track use (VXR trackday is when I drove it) but probably enough for most people for day to day use - handling wasn't exactly poor either. I have not driven any new hot hatches to compare it to, but it's hardly a crap car.

Do you even drive, let alone put your money where your mouth is and buy your own car?

basically its a model that is designed to trump the Fiesta ST...why buy a firsta ST when you can have a Corsa VXR?

the Corsa has always been seen as a girly car.. the 190bhp turbo changes all of that quite simply.

So its not your cuppa tea, do you go to random ford forums and start LOLing at people buying the Fiesta, the Fiesta ST, Focus 1.8..

how do leons fit into this? they arent the most godly handling cars in the world, should they all crawl into a hole and die too?!

rypt, have you even driven a corsa vxr? I hear people say they are good fun on the vxr track days.

Because after you peel away the extra VXR tasty stuff it is still a Corsa ...

Totally :D

I must admit that I'm in love with you. Not only do you have a car that wasn't purchased because it looks cute with nice cupholders, but you have found the internet, got onto an overclocking pc parts forum, and can even highlight quoted post, edit them for the truth and change colour.

You can come for a ride in my DC2 anyday....... When it isn't in bits

:D:D:D

My best mate has a JDM 98 spec DC2, in fact visit youtube see us racing together...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9uom7ST9ZI

Older? Im 23!

Sorry I was being subjective, no offense intended :)

Right on! I didn't intend to reignite this whole debate but I think if your gonna comment on something at least know what your talking about i.e. having driven the car. a lot of comments on here are based on brash assumptions... the same way I don't talk about d!cks cos I don't own one, therefore I can't comment. Touche.

The Corsa is built as a cheap motoring tool, you can add whatever bits you want to it but unless you replace all the trim, a lot of the suspension geometry and so on you are not going to get away from the compromises that had to be made to the setup in order to make it an effective and cheap car.
VXR can add more power, a diff if it has one, and upgrade suspension setup ... but it's not going to take away any of the compromises and cheap parts.

Something like the Astra is a larger car, so has to have fewer setup compromises anyway.

As I said, I don't mind the Astra VXR, but the only hot hatches I like are the more crazy things.
(To be fair, I'd prefer if it was crazy stuff like the current STI, the old group B stuff, the Celica [still a hatch] and so on)

Buying a Corsa for 14k is like buying a Mugen Civic for 45k, there are MUCH better cars you can get for that money

You know what would make the Corsa VXR cool though?
Make it AWD/RWD, full double wishbones at both ends, lower seating position, lose the back seats

Oh wait, it's not a proper sports car, my bad.

Celica at the moment, thinking of going (back) to an MR2 again though or perhaps getting something FR, though I'm not too keep on getting an E36 and not too big of a fan of S13s :(

agree with you about people commenting on cars they haven't driven but don't really get your analogy. I haven't got boobs or a fanny but I talk about them all the time.

Understandable, some of the blokes here have vaginas though, just take a look at a few threads around for example!

thats why its 14k new...

sure u can spend another 6-8k and get the full shebang 888 version or whatever...

if it was £20k and had most of the things you talked about, you would still criticise it and say buy a scubaru instead?

a Mugen honda at 45k is noweher near a 14k new VXR Corsa...

As I've pointed out, you can get the 2nd best looking Subaru Impreza ever made for less than 14k (the Hawk Eye STi). You can also get a tasty Evo 8, or even better a 6 for that.
You can also get an S15 Spec R, or an R33, or a 350z or an Altezza RS200 or <just about anything else, say E36 M3).

Each one of those cars is about 10x better than a Corsa VXR.

The fact that it is "new" has no bearing on whether it is worth the money or not.
