LED running lights look absolutely terrible, they are probably the most Halfords-esque of all new car styling features. Everything seems to have them these days and it just looks so awful.

EU regulations do not mandate LED running lights at all - they simply say you must have running lights. These can quite easily be sidelights just like Volvo have been doing every year.

However Audi decided they needed something brand-identifying like BMW's Angel Eyes, came up with the LED thing, and everyone else copied.

Great :/

I see. I wasn't sure if running lights was a new fangled term for sidelights, or if it specifically referred to this type.

LED running lights aren't the problem really, it's the size, brightness and colour of them that is - there's no need for them to be so big and bright white, what's wrong with easy on the eyes brightness which would still be perfectly visible or the type the E60 has (3 orange LEDs in the headlamp corner).

This IMHO is the only car that has nailed it yet - the E60.

E60 headlamp cluster just blends so well. People can **** off the e60 all they like but it does these kinds of things nicely!

Although I agree that most DRL look horrific, I can't help but like the R8 style swoopy designs... The A1, new A4, new A8 etc. all use that look. I even like the A5 ones.

Don't understand why they couldn't have redesigned the headlights and incorperate a running light strip into them. Really looks like an afterthought. Mk4 is a nice looking car and the addition of these lights just looks laughable.

They look fine on the E92 as well, they've just made the Angel halos come on about twice as bright as when the xenons are on for the E92 DLR. No need for vulgar strips of LEDs :\

Same here

Meh. Maybe if they didn't look like something they thought of really late and slapped onto the design. If they were incorperated into the headlights..fair enough, instead it looks like the designer dipped his arm into "ye big bag o gimmicks" and pulled those out. :(

I really like the "fatboy" mondeo but those do nothing for it.

Noticed Mercs have them down near the foglights now. Very bright though; I realise the point is to increase presence but they're sometimes almost distracting.

Location: Essex :D

should have seen that coming really... :p

But I agree with various previous posts that some manufacturers could incorporate them better, as I personally prefer them actually incorporated into the main headlight unit. As a whole though, I like the idea of them
