***Nvidia GTX480 & 470 reviews & discussion***

Oh dear!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi

I think the poor man would hate NVIDIA for using his name on such a major project, that has ultimately turned into a bit of a let-down...

Enrico Fermi (29 September 1901 – 28 November 1954) was an Italian physicist, particularly remembered for his work on the development of the first nuclear reactor

Very suiting name for the GF100 it seems.

Well look at it like this if you like Flight Simulator X the noise of the fan will add a whole new sence of realism to the sounds of some of the jet engiens :P

Unfortunately, for FSX it still probably won't outperform the geforce 9 series cards. :p

closed cup headphones = win. also. Water cooling. Heat pffft. Power consumption pffft.
1300w + Ek blocks = win

God what have i done? Well, I needed an excuse to rebuild my PC, and my 295's were in the way, and too slow.

The UK price of the 470 just plain kills it. 5850: £220, 470: £320, more heat, noise, power and ~30% over priced relative to the us (let alone the 5850).

True, there's CUDA, and that will shift the 480 where price is less important, but seriously..

not at 2560 with aa, in most cases? or at least, not in the games i cared to look at. also, dx11.

really, not worth it. but they'll look shiny.

Sorry but not a great pic:

One advantage that fermi has over ATI, is that it will be useful for winter time :p

Disappointing for the price even if they was about the same price still disappointing.

the GTX480 don't even touch 10% faster most of the time, only a couple of percent

also the HD5870 seems stronger in very high res looking at some techpowerup benchis

don't know how they can recommend it tbh phyX is nothing worth writing home about considering most games use havok like physics

I was hoping for the hyped 20% faster tbh also its uses a lot more power, runs hotter. I wouldn't dare say its fails, if it was a fail it would be a bit slower than the HD5870

well, i am thinking of moving to iceland :)

seriously I am, although not because of fermi, its just a bonus ill be able to stick my pc in a glacier.

Don't melt glaciers, you'll melt them all and eventually end up melting the polar ice caps and drowning us all .

I waited a long time for this card and finally caved in a couple of weeks ago and bought a 5870.

I was kicking myself after it but i'm glad i did now since i'm not losing out on much i would notice.
