Need Help here,

just moved my mobo and hdds into a new case, same processor, new ram and graphics.

Now when i boot the pc neither my main hdd with the OS on or the Storage HDD are detected, just the optical drive, al are plugged through sata but bios dosent pick them up. I have no idea how to fix this so any help would be great, i know after it picks up the OS HDD i can repair but i need to get it to that stage.

Thanks for any help here !

not, the optical is detected regardless of port used, as soon as i plug a HDD into the same port then it isnt picked up atall

edit: Also the storage drive is detected, so its only my HDD with the OS on it which isnt found by the bios !

resolved it by plugging powered sata plugs into the OS drive, however i only have 2 of these 1 for the Storage and 1 for the Optical, so i thought i was powering them off regular sata bafore? or am i totally wrong as i only have 2 powered ones and have the same setup as before to my understanding

umm, its not the regular sata cable its a bigger one, previously i only used it on my optical drive but some reason now i need it for my hdd, perhaps just called sata power cable?

another issue im facing now is it is detected in the BIOS under boot devices but not under sata port monitor so when i go to repair my windows boot files it dosent appear on the list of drives : /

Are they all SATA drives? You don't mean PATA or 'IDE' drives do you? A sata drive should have a data connection to the motherboard, and a power connection to the power supply. Some SATA drives don't have what is described as a 'SATA power connector', but a 4-pin molex connector instead.

If it's connected up right, sounds like the drive has a problem. Any audible clicking or grinding? What brand/model is the drive?

yeah its power, but sata and power are moulded as 1 connector,

theres no clicking or griding, just regular noise as far as i can tell, its a 74gig western digital raptor its just giving boot errors and as the bios isnt seeing it i cant repair it since it isnt in the list : /

Oh right, sounds like you've got a WD Secure Connect cable in it.

If the BIOS can't see it, that's usually game over as far as you're concerned. Warranty time if you've still got some left. You can always contact WD support with your problem too, I suspect they'll say RMA too, but there may be some specific HDD BIOS/board issue you can fix, though extremely unlikely.

The only other thing you could do I guess, is try it in another machine.

ah it still has important data on it i need to keep so i really need to get it working, ill try another machine 2moro, its 3 years old so probably out of warrenty and im guessing their tech support is awful. Really annoying since its the same mobo and processor just new ram and g card. thats why i didnt back it up

Ahh but there's no excuse for not backing up, you never know when these things will happen unfortunately. Consider it lesson learned.

If I remember correctly, WD Raptors come with a 5-year warranty, that may not be the case for all. You can check by inputting the serial number on the drive into the WD support site. Their support isn't bad at all, just they may not be able to solve your problem (very likely) without an RMA.

If you REALLY need data from the disc, you can send it to a data recovery specialist.

Plus you could try the freezer trick before.one of hes tricks to get them back even just to recover data.
If you're stuck just find me here as not sure if you can pm here?
Plus it does help if people put where they are from in there sig?

quick update, i plugged it into another pc and it is recognised, and in windows it loads as a storage drive. does this narrow down solutions to the problem ?

also how can i get files of the desktop of the OS drive when its running as storage in the other pc.

thanks guys !
