Murker razor and new blades..ouchies!

People always recommend these on here as they think using one makes them alpha. The reality is that they're just a pain in the arse.

They take too long to shave with when you're in a rush to get ready for work. I'd rather have ten extra minutes in bed and get a (pretty damn good) shave in four minutes from my Gillette Mk III Power and King of Shaves gel.

Your a n00b then.

I can have a full shave in 4 minutes, if it's done every day :p

Possibly. Or possibly just shaving with it properly works fine on beards.

Guess what...I was bull****ing! I've never even used one muhahaha!

However, I'm still not tempted to try, knowing how quick and comfortable by M3 shave is and knowing how many people complain about how long it takes and being cut to shreds.

Well now I'm used to my Merkur, I can shave in about 5 minutes and cut myself less than when I used a cartridge razor. Horses for courses and all that.

ColiNfr.

Ps - the murker razor is the one with numbers 1-6 on it.

use setting number 1 unless it's fairly long (your beard).
Do not apply any pressure but let the weight of the razor be the applied pressure.
get some nice sharp blades so they just glide across your face (blunt blades require pressure they then glide into ur face ...not good).

proraso pre-shave cream helps...get some.

I've used a Merkur HD for a couple of years now. The main advantage over my mach3 for me, is how much money I've saved not having to buy replacement gilette blades. I've still not finished the 100 pack of derby blades I bought with the razor.

I feel more comfortable using a safety razor since switching a few years ago.

Had to use a mates Mach III on holiday (with a new blade) and it felt like I was 2 seconds away from a slit throat accident :D

EDIT: The blades are so cheap for them, it's silly to buy packs of 3 gilette blades for £10 when I can get close to 100 blades for the same cash.

Sounds like a merkur futur, 1 being the most gentle and 6 the most aggressive.

The popular blade pack from connaught is what you need, all the most popular blades personally i love super iridiums.

Though i use a straight now, it's a nightmare to learned but im damned if im giving up.

Stupid question. Why would it take longer to shave with a safety razor than a disposable? Is it purely because it only has one blade and you need to go over the area a few times?

You tend to slow down so that you don't butcher your face open.

I've seen the threads on here about the Merkurs etc.. and thought of getting one but I happy enough with my Mach 3 and have no bother with it.

Still have a quite a few cartridges left, maybe when they're finished I'll look at a Merkur. I generally shave once or twice a week so cartridges last me a bit.

Chances are you dont have the angle right.

On the head of the razor it is rounded, practice getting the angle right on your arm (for the love of god no where near your wrist). All you are doing is looking to see how the angle will affect the aggresiveness of the blade.

Also use a good gel to keep the hair soft (I use an elemis for men one - it really is the dogs).

When shaving small strokes, remember to rotate the blade and keep it well rinsed. At the moment I always put a new blade in when shaving - have loads of them and it means I always have a nice sharp cut.

best place to get a murker?

Edit

nevermind found shaving-shack heh :)
