XFX ATI Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition 2048MB GDDR5

Oh lord I just realised something incredibly stupid.

Have i only been overclocking one core? I just change the cores on ATI Overdrive. Does that overclock both cores? or just one? And it suddenly struck me that I haven't seen the word crossfire anywhere. Is this something i need to enable? GAH trust me to overclock after 24 hours without sleep.....

Hey Dissy! Yup i will try that tonight to see what happens!

had any screenshots of you system yet? I've got a couple in my build log but I'll be uploading more tonight!

Thought you were doing well with temps and Oc @950/1300 :) keep us upto date with the Clocks. Both of them :)

apologies if I'm being a total tool here.

In GpuZ it says that ATI Crossfire is enabled. Which is cool. But I can't seem to find any option in CCC that actually lets me enable it. Does this mean its automatically enabled? if i were to disable it, how would i do it?

Also, in ATI Overdrive, I'm guessing I would need to set the clocks for both GPU's? Just wanted to make sure. Cause when i click on the dropdown box for 'select GPU to configure' I do indeed get 2 options. But on one of them, all of my monitors are connected to it. Is it normal?

alright. 10 minutes so far. 950/1300 Both Cores (thanks guys hehehe)

Temperature - 54 Degrees.

Will be running Unigine Heaven 2.0 shortly

wish me luck!

And yeah u "kinda" need to enable crossfire.

Open CCC and goto 3d. then goto all. then move the catalyst ai over to advanced.

You can check crossfire status / each core's clocks with gpu-z

CAT A.I should be on standard for CF & not advanced.
Problems may occur in games in the advanced setting.

If CF is only working when in advanced A.I setting then there are other issues involved.

Crashed @ 1000/1350

Grrr.

Will have to try again later. Gotta clean the house a little at the moment.

Just a quick note here regarding uniengine

Dont have the same res. i have only run 1280x1024 that was 90.4 2276 and 5760x1080 32.5 818. Heaven Benchmark is not the best to run to many variables. Run Vantage and a game(Dirt or BFBC). I can get silly clocks but once you start to play games it all goes wrong :)

This is 960/1300 CPU@4Ghz

Hello Danny!

Meh couldn't run vantage. Somehow my key that came with my motherboard does not work... :( Will try to ring a friend for some help in the meantime!

Will update as soon as I can!

will post some pictures up too!

I have never trusted this test. Look at your max FPS to mine! Just doesnt work out. You have better CPU(They say it doesnt matter but must do a little ) and better GPU clocks. But saying that i have found once you get to the max it starts to bottle neck.

Not 100% without finding my paper work but the best vantage scores were with settings 1000/1200 something around there.

Danny I forgot to ask. What voltage are you on? I've sent XFX a ticket for them to advise on the best voltage and max voltage. They have yet to come back with an answer. Im most certain that one could overclock the Black Edition to a 1000,1300 (water). But i'm not convinced that the 1000ghz core clock [stable] is achiveable with the max voltage of 1.1625 on the XFX overvolt tool. Our waterblocks can surely handle the heat.

Hows ur temps matey? At your max stable overclock ?

Hey Dipz!

Apologies I crashed last night from the PC and I had to sleep..

but at 950/1300 I was @ 53 degrees.
Voltage - 1.1625

I might actually keep it at that depending on what XFX comes back with. Was doing some reading and some peeps that have it at 1k need a 1.3V to keep it stable apparently. i'm not sure if its worth all that trouble and I can't get a definitive answer if 1.3V is indeed a safe overvolt. Some say it is but I can't find anything official on a review site regarding the 1.3 Volting.

Should be sorted soon!

Hows yours doing mate and what are your temps?

Sometimes the overvolt isn't worth the performance increase tbh. Overvolting will always shorten a components life!!.

Tbh mate, i'm happy with my 775 / 1150, because im ordering another 5970 within the next day, dont need to overclock mine too mad :D
