SW:TOR - Estimated investment by EA = $150mil :o

Well if they are looking for the sort of production values that Dragon Age had, but in an MMO then that would certianly cost a lot, but $150m? That can't be right.

Dunno maybe the factored launching servers in that too? Suppose if this does take off they will make that back quickly with subs.

I'm looking forward to this game. With that much cash sunk into it I hope EA don't start putting too much pressure on BioWare to get it rushed out.

They did that with Mythic and we all know what happened to Warhammer....

What games would these be? Only a few years ago, games like Halo started breaking $10m barrier. As someone said MW2 cost $50m but they spent around $200m on advertising the game - but what do they care, they made over a $1b back.

How do we know it isn't including the advertising budget in the 150 million? :p

It's not Warcraft. This is why it will fail.

It will have a big surge, then just tootle along like all the other wannabes after everyone goes back to WoW.

I've never much cared for the 'Old Republic' setting anyhoo and seeing EA get burned would be most amusing.
I don't think Dragon Age was a classic... or NWN.

It's OK, I'll go get my coat...

I'd say it was fair comment. Bioware are not gods, just the only people that make these sorts of games nowadays.

Dragon Age and NWN (2) were both great fun to play and I'm grateful they were made, but I'm not sure how they'll stand the test of time.

I've never played any Bioware game for more than about an hour, I was just making the observation that they will not be left alone to get on with it, just look at the mess that happened to SWG because somebody felt the need to meddle.

Bioware made Baldur's gate too, I'm sure that stood the test time. If not for graphics.

Indeed it has. That's not saying much for Dragon Age, however. BG and DA are not very similar at all.

Behind the BG/BG2 storyline was a solid strategy game. I wish I could say the same about DA, but beyond the story there was little meat to the actual gameplay.

It would be nice if EA spent a little more time making the damn game than spending money on advertising. I mean seriously word gets out if you make a decent game quite easily.

If your gona spend that much money the best thing you can possibly spend it on is an MMO. The biggest cash cows in the gameing industry. If you bring out a desent one form the get go you'll have so many subs you'll make it back in the first few days of release and be rolling on it. Infact if its a good enough one they will make that back and more just on preorders.

Starwars is a bigger IP than Warcraft will ever be and there are tons of SW fans that don't play MMOs that will play just because it's SW

I just hope that it is the game for me that replaces WOW, so may have tried and failed, it wont be SWG but you would not spend that much making a game to make it rubbish as been the case with the last lot of MMO's released recently.
