My laptop 2.5" SATA hard drive has failed. What replacement should i buy?

Until I saw you mention cost I was going to say an SSD, massive improvement on a laptop and worth every penny but only if you can afford it...

Please explain what this is and how much? Also will this work as good as it should if the rest of my system is pretty standard?

edit: Just read this thread on SSD's. What about prices? And are they a direct swap?
 
Your old drive is a 5,400rpm drive I see. Depending on the age of your laptop (if it's newer go with SSD) I'd recommend getting a 7,200rpm drive. I did this for my DELL for under £50 and now it's like using a desktop machine. The response time is much better and it didn't cost me too much to do.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-224-WD&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=896 is a good example of one of these drives. I have the 320GB version, but there is also a 160GB version for cheaper.
