ATI 5870 2048 MB EYEFINITY 6 PRODUCT LAUNCH - IN STOCK NOW FROM £429.99 inc VAT

I would say this card is definatly not for gaming.

My 5970 on 3 screens @ 5760x1200 hits about 60fps all maxed on BC2. This card which is slower with more screens just would not cut it. And as Ati still have not fixed the CrossfireX & eyefinity you have no chance of running a second card for more power.

Only thing I can see this card being usefull for is cad systems or developers who like a large desktop.

Any 6 screen Eyefinity setups gonna be showing up in the Desk Thread? ;)
Might as well use a fhd +/ 3d projector at that point. Unless you use expensive monitors, you're going to have problems with viewing angles and colour.
Not to mention the bezel of not 3 but 6 screens and the cost of a stand good enough to hold 6 screens properly.

£150 is an impressive premium for 2gb, I have to say. :D

Thats the thing, all good that it has 6 outputs, but you then need 6 expensive display port monitors, or a £££ worth of Adaptors ???

ATi is a business

these have been around collecting dust on a shelf since September last year waiting for Fermi to come out. Fermi is launched and bang Ati releases these at £10-30 lower.

Good business - bad for consumer.

Blame nvidia !

Of course it's for gaming.

Just becuase it has 6 ports doesn't mean you have to use all 6. One of the major features is the 2gb of vram which would be useful for when you hit the ram limit on a 3 screen setup.

I'm not sure what driver version you are running but I can run with eyefinity + 2x 5870 in cfx no problem.

Cad users will be looking to firegl or quadro cards as they are tuned for the pro environment, this is for games.

These cards should be bundled with adaptors for dvi, hdmi and dp if the have stuck to the description of the eyefinity package from ati's pp slide. How many though, I'm not sure.

Initial reviews show no more than a 1 or 2fps difference when running 3 screens on a 1GB card compared to the 2GB v****nt. This could quite easily be within error margins, so for a 3 screen (1920) setup, it appears to be overkill.

If you're running higher resolutions, so 3x 27" or 3x 30", then there could be a benefit I guess, but there's probably not too many people doing that.

Stop with the FUD please, Eyefinity has been working with xfire for months.

So you have CrossFireX & Eyefinity working do you?

I have a 5970 & 5870. If I run the 2 in crossfireX on single screen I get amazing fps. If I run it in eyefinity I get 20fps max on everything. I am not the only one with this problem there are countless people with it.. Check the net.... And yes all drivers tested with clean windows installs.. This is a known issue..

So please if anyone needs to cut the "FUD" as you put it then do your homework before you make uneducated GUESS comments.

Many people do & some don't & your setup 5970 & 5870 is not typical, 5870 +5870 is.

Am I seeing this right? The 5870 is now the same price as the GTX 480? What do the ATI fanboys say about this????

They price their products in accordance to how much their competition (Nvidia) costs.

The higher the price of ATI cards, the worse that Nvidia must be doing :D

Trifire is garbage according to the Guru review on it. Whereas 2 card crossfire works in around 85% of games, trifire only seems to work in about 40%, and then you also get lower performance in some games with 3 cards as opposed to two.
