Anyone have any suggestions on some decent Hard Drives to put into a new 3 or 4 disk RAID Array? I have a new PCI-Ex RAID Controller to try out, so I'm not looking for huge capacities but quick access speeds and big memory buffers....

I've discarded the idea of getting a SSD right now, will wait till later in the year I think as capacities are just too small for the price you pay.

No one have an opinion?

I've been doing some digging around, and it looks like the samsung F3 500GB HD502HJ drives tick all the boxes I want.

With a 500GB platter these (HD502HJ) will give good performance, the Spinpoint F3s (500GB & 1TB) are about the best performance/price HDDs about at the moment...

the other ones similar size ive found are these linky I have 3 of them in raid0 on a perc 5i 120mb/s read and write have not run any thing like hd tune on them but thats transferring large files across gigabyte network.

Heh, I just got my hands on a PERC5 funnily enough :P Hence the thread :D

However, you should be getting a lot more throughput than 120MB/s for a 3 disk RAID 0 array - 120MB/s is the Gb network limit.

With 3 disks, Im guestamating around 340MB/s in RAID 0 for Read throughput.

Oooh dear, was told by a competitor that that 500GB Samsung F3 maybe discontinued, as it doesnt look like there getting any more stock in!
