I already saw his read one, the grey one is slightly higher spec, although that may not be such a good thing in this case (self levelling suspension, can you say OMFG expensive to fix!) and it has half the mileage which is why it's cheaper, what is surprising is that it's 'only' £1k cheaper.
I already saw the E38 paradigm posted, that is a beautiful car, but it's a lwb ...the Jag was a pain to park in quite a few car parks I use on a regular basis and that was a tad shorter than a lwb 7, but ...what a car. Also I wouldn't spend £8k on a second car, £5k maybe, £8k ...no and the E39 isn't going anywhere, unless it's gearbox fails or the engine explodes or needs new cams or something equally debilitating.
I do like big luxury cars, there is just something about them. But if you like driving, which I do ...they are boats to be honest, driving an E39 after a Jaguar XJ is like driving a go cart

...almost.
The E32 does look dated but a well kept one looks dated in the 'right' way, a classic way, it always was a good looking car and I think good ones have dated well. Just like the E34.
If I was going to spend £8k on an old BMW I'd be angling for an E31 8 series anyway, I need a car with accessible and usable back seats though, so I could have an E31 ...but it'd have to be as well as something more practical not instead of.
/looks out the Windows at the E39 ...that will do just fine. ...although sounding like an Aussie Super V8 muscle car for easter is scaring my neighbours
