ATI 5870 2048 MB EYEFINITY 6 PRODUCT LAUNCH - IN STOCK NOW FROM £429.99 inc VAT

Well, obviously they think some people will use 2 -6 monitors, this isn't supposed to perform better than a normal 5870, its for people with more monitors and higher resolutions as a result, hence the extra ram.

I use two monitors but a normal one is perfectly fine for that.

As its £100 more, and the same price as a gtx 480 you would expect a little better speed :), i want a new gpu and as im a gta fan, i want more than 1gb, for EFLC release, but the way it looks, i wont be buying one in time for the game!!, hopefully the matrix or toxic, 2gb will be sensibly priced, if not ill go fermi 480, but with reservations :)

So if you want to run six screen :o from one card you can for an extra £150 on top of the price of a regular 5870 ?

Who is planning on a 6 screen setup ?

It seems just plain pointless to me, I don't get the point of this card.

no point in 6 screens (for gaming) if doing 2x3, you'll still hame the same fov except bezel in the way. I think [H]s demo of that is clear.

3x1 you have a great wide fov and nothing in the way of the crosshair. 5x1 in portrait would work too.

No, it seems we now have two versions of the 5870 with a £150 price difference. One is a gaming card and the other is for the purpose of running six monitors.

The ATI 5870 eye *dont have a cat in hells chance of gaming on six monitors* finity 6 FPS if your lucky Edition.

I consider 3 monitors for gaming as totally pointless because of the bezel issue, 6 just doubles that problem and puts a bezel line right through the center of your view for good measure.

I'm curious why ATI didn't market this card as a special line for professionals (under the FireGL name or something) then they could charge even more ridiculous money for it. Seems like a pointless card to sell to the mainstream.

Ive been using 3 monitors for about 2 months now and believe me when I say you dont notice the bezels after a while! Yes it would be better if the bezels were thinner but hey the only issue for me is I purchased cheap 24" monitors that dont support the standard mounts so I cant put them together on a triple monitor stand.

6 monitors on the other hand I feel would take a lot more getting used to as it would suffer more relating to bezels as the crosshairs on FPS would be at the centre of the 2 bezels between top and bottom screen. Its wierd how ATI have released 3 and 6 monitor graphics cards without anyone actually bringing out a better monitor solution for them (roll on Samsung!).

£300 to be honest, 5870s should be £240 and 5850s should be £170.

I reckon they should be £180 for 5850, £260 for 5870, £300 for 2 Gb 5870, £500 for 5970.

My <£400 opinion was related to the current asking prices though.

According to specs, this has mini DP ports.

According to monitor specs, they have display ports.

there arent any cables available that are mini dp - dp so how do you connect them ?

lets face it, for gaming in the future 6 monitors or 1 'special' monitor with 12 million pixel res and huge FOV will rule !

WHEN, they remove the bezel !

However... please dont think 3 x monitors in eyefinity is as crap as a 6 monitor setup with all the bezels as it is not.

3x monitors with some thin bezels is amazing ! a real improvement to gaming beyond that of a 40" LCD TV @ 1080p and certainley better than any single 30" monitor.

trust me all you need is the 2GB version without the 6 display ports (otherwise thats gonna cost a lot to use £80 a pop powered converters !!!!!)

Interesting thing to note with these is you ideally need 2 in CF to really get the most out of the cards. For 3 monitors using AA, these are the best bet over the 1gb version but if you have 1/2 monitors, avoid this version. The larger frame buffer due to the 2gb of ram actually makes you lose FPS at lower resolutions. This version of the card only starts to be worth its price when at the 3 monitor eyefinity setup.

yes true.

the main thing you need is the 2gb version of the 5850 with some overclocking running 3 thin bezel monitors :D

i already have the 3 thin bezel monitors but iam waiting for the right card :p

Yeah would be nice to see a 5850 version with 2gb and just 3 outputs on it to be honest at a better price tag. Would be a more interesting card in my opinion.

Radeon 5850 Toxic

been reviewed on a few sites, runs nice and cool/quiet also.

unfortunatley it would seem that unless you run AA with eyefinity the 1gb is actually a frame or two faster... but hey you might wanna run AA or in future games may run even higher HQ textures like the new crysis ?

also.. 2 x these badboys is 4GB video RAM
