Attention E46 owners..

Renault are currently advertising tomtom in their television adverts. Have they done just this, or are they simply giving away a free tomtom to purchasers?

There is a docking system built into the car for a portable unit I think? Thats how it works on the Seat Ibiza - the portable unit clips onto the top of the dash and is charged by the car.

It flips out of the top of the dash.

Properly or by bodging it using POI's?

Far less of a bodge than having some Barry stick on TomTom on your screen which you have to remove each time. :D

It gets you to exactly where you want to go, I don't see the problem with using POIs.

The only bit that really annoys me is crap £50 navs have the license, where nav is often a very expensive option, yet does not have a full postcode license.

I really wish the manufacturers would just do a tie-in with some of the aftermarket nav manufacturers. The functionality of, say, TomTom is leagues ahead of most of the inbuilt navigation systems. Full postcode search, IQ routes, etc etc. It's just better.

Yet looks completely **** stuck to your windscreen. Sigh.

Forgot a 335i, it sounds like you need a Renault Clio!

LOL. How can you describe anything as ***** when you own a 20 year old beat up Fiesta?

Because owning something that doesn't conform to not being ***** doesn't mean you can't have an opinion as to what DOES.

That said, its a bit odd that the satnav faces directly towards the back of the car instead of being orientated towards the driver.

It looks crap, but whether or not that is just because it looks typically cheap and French or because of the layout, I'm not sure.

I struggling to follow your apalling diction. You've got multiple negatives contradicting several positives just in one sentence...

Anyway, someone criticising or judging something else when they're worse than the thing that they're juding means that they're criticising and judging themselves.

Cor blimey, I'm not normally one to cry "snob!" but moaning about having a Tomtom attached to the windscreen on the odd occasion that you might need it and that it will ruin the aesthetics? Deary me!

Ho hum :p

I do agree that it's very difficult if not impossible to make an "aftermarket" install look good in an E43/E39 dash though!

Mind you, if that bloke above's carPC install had a screen which was more flush with the surround, which didn't look like it had been vacuum-formed by a kid in a tech class in school, it'd look a lot better!

You've already reeled out the 'lol you drive a Fiesta' statement before, could you not think of anything better?

I also love how you mock me, then more or less in a very roundabout way agree with my original statement that it really doesn't look like it belongs in the car!

I'm not mocking you - I'm simply pointing out your hypocrisy.

As for that TomTom, the bevel is a bit too bit large, and it should orientate more towards the driver more, but its not bad for a 1st attempt. I don't think its anything close to '*****' though.

You have a deeply flawed idea of what hypocrisy is.

If I fashoned a sat nav solution out of papier mache and araldite and stuck it to the top of my dash, then maybe I can be called a hypocrite. As for 'not bad for a first attempt', this is a car company, not Bob in his shed trying to figure something out, they could have done much better. Irrespective of whichever car I drive, which has no relevance to this at all, other than you wanting to make a pathetic dig.

But how does Janesy "owning a 20 year old Fiesta" mean he can't call something ***** or not? It's as if you're implying Janesy is a ***** by owning a "20 year old Fiesta" when in fact, there is no problem in owning a Fiesta of that age.

Perhaps MarkDavis just feels still having a car registered not in the last decade but the decade before is pretty *****?

Mark remind us again the date of registration of your 323i?

To be fair to Mark Davis, it hardly looks *****, especially in comparison to an old Fiesta. Sure it looks cheap and French, but not *****.

Thing is though, as he's never claimed his Fiesta is anything other than ***** I dont understand why this means he cannot have an opinion.

I, for example, do not really like the Audi R8. I think it looks tacky. Am I unable to hold this opinion because I don't own a Porsche 911?
