the "fermis" will get better but not these cards.

I will only buy them if I was a software dev, and thats for cuda, physX is just a gimick and not many game use it these days.

you need two card for surround gaming (eyeinfinty) and AMD are getting 3D vision soon(rather than later)

if you want to buy one than its your money, but don't come here claiming its the best cos its clearly not

Nvidia DO have better linux drivers as they are a lot easier to install without having it go in to CLI mode >_> as I found out But I wouldn't buy a fermi for that I would just get a cheap Nvidia for it, however I can't fit one in my PC at this moment till I ethoir go to a single card or something like a HD5890 so I m not screwed if it starts struggling

it was not aimed at you, or anyone hell it was not advise it was a personal statement. there was no need for that, I mean really... If you buy one fine share your throughts, show us the performances off it fine....claiming its the best will just get you ripped as fact is (fermi) is not. If you ask me its a bit of a flop compared with something like the 8800.

As for the future of fermi, it will improve maybe one day it will but not these cards drivers can't sort out heat/power problems.. as for the performances maybe it will get better.

One thing I wouldn't do is buy a card and state its the best, even if its the fastest on the market....nothing is perfect.

You have not seen what this place can get like when two sides clash.

i have read and seen whats its like, and as a PC GAMER for over 10 years its pathetic, both Ati and Nvidia make good cards!

you did aim your comments at nvidia buyers though and my comment was above yours!

Anyway i had a 8800gtx and the same heat/power issues were aimed at that, and it was the best card of its generation, 18 months on top and seeing as i wont be buying a card for another 18 months to 2 years, the 480 suits me fine, i like single gpu's, not dual or sli,
and want more than 1gb and like the performance in dx 11, i think its expensive but over 300 quid isnt cheap either, so i dont see anything wrong with buying one and evga are a good company with good warranty's, as my old 8800 gtx was an evga

but there's nothing wrong with buying an Ati either

I actually quite like 3D vision, but I found the performance impact it had quite surprising, a total halving of the FPS is quite a big drop in performance, I could see the 470 and 480 struggling with playing games with 3D on unless they've made changes to how it works on fermi cards, but there aren't any bench marks currently that show fermi and 3D that I'm aware of.

3D Vision does roughly halve the fps yes but...
If you are running 4 or 8 AA you wouldnt keep doing that in 3D as 3D gives free AA. 2AA is the most that is needed in 3D Vision so you gain performance when its reduced meaning only about a 25% performance hit in total ;)

yup and it looks quite good for performance in 3D, as you say 2xaa is enough

I too am tempted to buy the 470. I already have a 5850 (overclocked to 1000/1250), but it will be fun to test them directly against eachother and keep whichever I find best overall.

Whichever one I sell I should only lose £20-£30 - the cost of a trip to Pizza Hut.
That would be awesome, the thread with the 5850 vs 5870 @ stock/oc/oc max was one of the best post's on these boards: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18112756

I would have wasted an extra £130 on a 5870 vapor-x if I hadn't read your thread.

Would like to know how really loud these GTX 470/480's really are, do they live up to their distant cousin?? :D

"dont come here claiming its the best"

whats that then, how old are you to be telling me to grow up SON!!

because its not? fact. It trades blows with a cheaper card for crying out loud and the key word here is cheaper. Its not a bad card its a step forward for on the development side of things, but like it or not its too late for the gaming market, it already has ATI fact. Hows that telling you what to do, its common SENSE not to, Particularly here. Who would you perfer one of us or a don?

Also show me ware I said " don't buy Nvidia cards" I never said anything of the sort. And I know I didn't say anything like that.

If you wanna know the other time I ll get Nvidia is for linux however I don't have the room in my PC for it(damm it)

@ bee thanks for posting that, it don't look too bad in 3D vision in fact its playable all through if they are avg.

you dont actually say "dont buy nvidia" but your saying the 480gtx is too late for the games market which is more or less saying dont buy nvidia ;)

i dont follow your thinking ive seen a lot of reviews and the card performs well, and for what i want, its my choice of gpu this time around, if Ati had already brought out the quicker 5870 with 2gb and priced them lower than the 480 i would have bought one, but i dont want one company to be all dominant, competition is good for us, the consumer

There is also the issue that people have waited for so long, held off buying the ATI 5 series for over 6 months, then told you should pay the same or even a little higher for the 5 series today, because the GTX 4XX was a flop and didn't live up to its expectations, when you could have enjoyed 6+ months of the ATI.

HELL NO! I don't care what cr@p Nvidia is selling, I'm buying one even if it means it bakes my computer and set my room alight.

...

Can't wait for my pre-ordered Asus GTX 480 to arrive next week! :D

now it would be classed as a fail if the HD5870 out performances it in ever situations. It called value for money which would you buy a M&S chocolate cake or a branded one?

And it is, I m not the only one to say it (not sure if it was mentioned on this fourm as there are so many fermi threads to follow)

All what I and a few others is saying is that the HD5870 tradees blows costs less, runs cooler takes a lot less power and will overclocked like hell and out pace it in ever way all for £320.

If you do programming than you may be needing Fermi but thats a slightly different situation as its not the gaming market. Not saying the HD5870/50 can't do it if your inpatient and love messing around with c++ coding (or whatever else cuda can work with) than yeah fermi as it should go on to the card.

Do you SERIOUSLY think that's bullying? What the hell?

Do you not get the forum thing or something? Am I not allowed my say because you don't like it?

Looks like you're not cur out for forum usage if you think so...
Yea? And I'm sure hijacking every GTX470/480 related topic and attempt to turn it into a Nvidia trashing thread means 'cur out for forum usage'.

You could have just just explained why the 5850/5870 is a better choice in terms of price vs performance ratio in a mature manner...and advise the OP to change his order to them if he could. But seriously though, anyone that read your post can pick up that you are more interested in the chance of trashing Nvidia than actually helping the OP, or answering the questions that's been asked.

And I think anyone that's been around the forum for a while in the recent months would notice that almost all of your posts are just "ATI is great, Nvida sucks" written in different ways instead of actually helping people, solving their problems or answering their questions. You're pretty much just jumping from topic to topic, looking for chances to 'snipe' Nvidia.

FFS, do you people ever even *try* to stop yourselves!??? Yet another thread ruined. Next time people get suspended for a month, no warnings

Closing this as it'll only go downhill from here...
