strategy pc games

ill start it off...i recently downloaded Command and conquer 4...not a bad game at all although Medievil Total war loks quite gd too...

I've been disappointed in SupCom2 - I can see why they've made some of the changes such as the research tree but a lot of it feels like a step backwards. The worst part for me has to be the lack of multiplayer maps, particularly for 6 or more players, combined with no mission editor - it gets very old very fast.

Back to Sins for me, fantastic game if you can put the time into it.

Is there better than the total war series now-adays?

Of course, they are completely **** in terms of city building and resource collection. don't get me wrong I like total war, but I also want to play games where you actually collect a load of resources etc...
Also in total war, each individual soldier is kind of, erm, retarded. In other games such as Cossacks EW and Back To War, you could also have up to 8000 units yet the units were actually individual units and they were smarter.

Supreme comander 1 forged alliance and company of hereos are the best two current RTS tbh everything else is ****,

Neither of them is particularly good at resource collection and city building ( supcom comes close), something like ANNO, Rise of Nations, Cossacks ( the first series), colonization, ( or even aoe/emp earth, etc, anything with more than 1 or 2 res and actual resource gathering rather than controlling stuff on the map for resources ( like mass in supcom or any point in coh)) etc with multiple resource gathering and management should also be in my top few strategy games imo. Both the games you named are really emphasizing on territory control over the rest.

Agree with snowdog here . I like games where you can turtle up and bulid up big armies. With CoH you are rushing around frantically straight away to try and establish map control.
DO NOT TOUCH C&C4 - worst game of the series

so out of the games you (snowdog) mentioned - ANNO, Rise of Nations, Cossacks ( the first series), colonization, - which one would u say is the best??

gota say snowdog, jus did a bit of research on the games ur talkin bout and comparin to c&c4 n medevil...i c wat ur sayin. only thing is that they look very complicated!...i mean very very complicated like i would nid a manual...

Errm I'm with Tefal on this one.

Company of Heroes in my opinion is the best strategy game out there because it's highly based on strategy (each unit has unique strengths and weaknesses etc)

Supreme Commander or Total Annihilation is okay, but I personally don't like the huge battles and whoever has the most units usually wins - which requires a whole lot of micro, especially with some of the expansions and add ons.

This moves nicely onto the other games mentioned in this thread, which are basically a combination or a trade off between the two above.
Base building, collecting resources and then having fun battles is probably what most people go for in these types of games but they do get boring fast since the same strategies are almost always used - so arguably, predictability of game play also increases.

Anyway, I hope some of that made sense.... personally out the ones you just picked, I would go for either Rise of Nations (similar to Age of Empires) or Cossacks and also take a look at C&C Generals ZH / Battle for Middle Earth 2.
