Evening all.

It was last Easter Monday when I went on stage, roughly around this time at Comedy Virgins night at The Cavendish Arms in Stockwell, South London. Some of you waited until silly hours of the morning to watch my first nervy attempt at five minutes of stand up comedy which I video'd and stuck on youtube.

Over the past twelve months, as much as I'd like to have made it on to Mock the Week by now, I've managed to perform 10 gigs. A couple of competitions and on stage at my local theatre's comedy night, Covent Garden and Soho and more at Stockwell and Brixton. Ideally, they say to 'make it' in comedy, I should aim to do around 3 gigs per week. As you can see, I'm waaay off that, but as the circuit is mostly in central London, and I live in Maidstone, it's as and when I have the energy, time and money to be able to do it around work and home life.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting, is just to highlight a personal milestone, and to thank those that were encouraging from my first gig. Having strangers give constructive but supportive feedback was very pivotal in driving me on and keeping me at it. Sadly I've lost a little focus as of late, having not gigged since mid Feb, but I will find my way back onto the track soon I hope.

So basically, thanks to those that were supportive, and those that have 'become a fan' on facebook etc. Who knows, one day, in ten years time, I might even make some money to cover my petrol!

The following contain a couple of f-words please don't listen if you are likely to get offended by them

My awkward, very first go at stand-up comedy

...and the following link is the same comedy night, about six months later, where I got a great response from the crowd. Camera packed up so audio only.

If you know links have swearies, don't post them!

^^ Fair enough :p See sig if you're interested.
Cheers :)

I'd prefer to see your newer stuff personally. Have you got any more videos?

Shame you've only done 10 gigs too.

Keep at it. Do it more. Don't buy the iPad and use that money to buy a few tickets up to where you need to get to.

Cheers - I'd like to point out, watching these back, if you listen to the second link, it's MUCH better than my first attempt :p

Sadly, my camcorder packed up so I haven't had a chance to get new videos. The last couple of competitions I did had a camera crew, but the audio mix is awful, they took a line straight from the mic so I'm talking but there is no audience response! Makes me look like a mentalist.

I'll try and get the next one filmed for you guys :)

Then play it back on my iPad :p

As for only doing 10 gigs, I concur, i'm considering starting a local open mic night so I can compere. It's surprisingly knackering doing a full time working week, commuting into the city after work and then getting nervy and full of adrenaline to do 5-10 minutes on stage, then to have the adrenaline comedown, commute back home, and get to work the next morning. Plus every gig in the city ends up costing at least 20-30 quid after parking, trains, drinks etc. I'd love to do it 3 nights a week, but it's not going to happen just yet.

Really enjoyed the videos. Second one is definitely funnier as you seem more comfortable and the humour is more natural. Would like to see more.:D

2nd one is very good. :)

EDIT: LOL at the gasp when you said gollywog :D

I came up with that bit about 10 minutes before going on, literally, I asked my mate and his missus who were with me if I could get away with it and they just looked at each other. I liked it though :p

Doing it in Brixton was a slightly scarier affair though :o

Ahh, vids have been removed. I've posted them before and prefixed them clearly and it's not been a problem, but I understand. If people are interested, the videos section on my facebook fan page (in sig) holds a bit more, or youtube.

I'd suggest beefing out the losing your comedy virginity bit. That had me laughing out loud. :D

I've managed to drag that out for 3/4 minutes before, I've got a lot more competent at bantering with the audience and making comments etc now which takes a bit of confidence I didn't have at the start. I'm in the process of writing a whole new set of material for this years gigs anyway, move away from the comedy virgin image :p
