What do you throw away?

This latest trip to the tip will see me leaving.

A Computer desk, PSX original Grey one(Chipped) An N64 console missing the cover for the expansion slot. A freeview box missing the remote.

I feel bad taking the stuff, But its taking up room

Put them on Freecycle.

If you ask the people working at the tip nicely, how are the council going to know?

Because they work for the council and it's their job? If they let you take it then there's no problem, taking it without asking might land you in it though. I'd be suprised if they did, because that's how they make money.

Depending what it is and how much its worth most of my unwanted items go along this route.

eBay > Boot sale > Offer it free to anyone > Recycling tip

When I do a boot sale I take anything not sold to the recycling tip on the way home :)

just gave to my bro a 17" tft, printer an old optiplex,,, good for his kid to do the cbeebies thingy,,,an he can do the footie BBC thing,,, so pass it on,,,or hoard it ?? ,,, tbh i think that most charities will give good equipment to families who cannot afford a Pc,,, so I think pass it on rather than throw away... even if it means 30 mins of your time,,,

I worked at a e-cycle place for 8 weeks in the summer of 08. I managed to get a full system with a blown PSU, it had Athlon 64 3800 x2, 4gb Corsair ram and an X800XT graphics card, I can't remember the make of the motherboard though. It's currently sitting at my girlfriends house in a WaveMaster tower which I also got from the e-cycle, few dents though :P

Yeah I asked the bloke that worked there, its not something I do all the time, its generally when im on the lookout for a case to stick some old hardware in thats going to be sitting in a store room or garage

Think I'm reporting you for your serious comma abuse there.

I usually sell anything I can on eBay, what won't sell goes on Freecycle and then anything else sadly has to go to the tip.

Amazing what some people consider junk though. I've had some good stuff off Freecycle.

I tend to not throw away anything of value if I don't have to. Even stuff that's not worth anything (or hardly anything) I've still got. I find that it get's used in some way or other in the end. Never ceases to amaze me the stuff that get's chucked up the tip. Before I moved house I knew of a bloke that worked near a tidy tip, he used to occasionally get stuff of them. Among other stuff he got a pc in a nice black case which was non working, and a laser printer which worked fine (just needed a clean). He was going to try and fix it up the pc but never got round to it. I had it off him, it needed a psu and a cpu. I took out the blown AMD Duron, and put in a spare Athlon 2100 I had, and a spare PSU I had. The motherboard was really new actually. It had 256mb ram and 2 20gb hard drives in and a DVD drive. That pc is now running in my sisters house and has been for years, she's more than happy with it (only needs it for internet and a bit of word processing). All I've done since had put in an extra 256mb ram. I had one of the 20gb drives out and put it in my other sisters pc as a secondary backup drive.
One other thing I found a few years ago was an almost brand new HP Scanjet 5p on the top of a skip outside my godmothers house, it had been rained on so I let it throroughly dry and got a scsi card, my other sister had that and has used it for years without a single problem! :D
