Apple holding iPhone OS 4 event, April 8th!

Any idea what time (UK) this begins tomorrow? I need to get 3 extra screens up for the streaming madness again :o

Looking forward to this.

Can anyone say why Multitasking would be good? Am I right in thinking I could reply to messages during a mass session of Doodle Jump?

Keeping a Twitter/FB/Email client open, using Last.FM or TuneIn Radio while browsing the web/texting/using another app.... etc.

Twitter is awesome for news and big events like this. It'll get inundated with info during the event.

so do you think this will be a announcment on the hardware to :D

No, the hardware updates are normally announced in june i think.

Also, all this multitasking stuff, if it is implemented i bet it's gonna be limited to the number of apps it supports e.g only allowing 3 apps to run side by side.

Where can I view the live stream when it starts?

Officially you can't because there is no live stream. There will be plenty of twitter feeds and web updates and someone may sneak a microphone in and broadcast it but nobody will know any links until it happens. Apple don't stream these events.

Definately. From the reading I've done people are typically expecting full blown multitasking with process priority control ffs. They seem to have forgotten that most apps we have today weren't even written for a multitasking OS, yet they perform 'ok' in task switching situations.

I reckon if the 3G is supported, it'll be heavily limited in the number of apps you can switch to. I know for a fact that mine can run about 4 apps before things get sluggish and that varies obviously on the type of apps you use in the first place.

It's also funny seeing all the 'Oh I don't need multitasking/'cut&paste/mms' hippocrates coming out of their holes saying how great it'll be just because Apple are doing it, when the very feature on the iPhone is rather old.

I always said that cut/paste and MMS were needed and was very happy when it arrived. I've not been excited about multitasking because I've never felt the need for the device to do full multitasking, the only things that would be handy are already catered through push notifications (for me that's IM and twitter). If there's no mention of multitasking in this update then it won't bother me in the slightest

Push doesn't work *that* well with IM apps.

You still have to wait for it to load and then reconnect which actually almost certainly takes more CPU time and battery power than just leaving it running!!

There is absolutely no reason what so ever why a text based communications app cannot stay connected in the background to be honest!

Some sort of multitasking is absolutely required.

6 O'Clock cannot come quickly enough!

I *usually* avoid the live feeds and wait for the video, but I'm too intrigued to wait.

Does anyone *think* they may actually show a new iPhone along with the software....

Push notifications are crap. Not only are there a large amount of apps that don't have it (or have it as the only difference in their paid version) but quite often, they're very late.
