Apple holding iPhone OS 4 event, April 8th!

Cant see the iphone 4 being shown off today as it is to close to the iPad launch. There is an event at the end of June i would gues that is more like the date for the grand unveiling.

Dont forget the iphone OSalready supports "multi-tasking" its just been crippled so i would expect it will just be lossened up slightly. I am more interested in the rumored GUI improvements (more of a desktop with room for widgets) that are supposed to be appearing in the iphone 4 as these changes would surely have to be part of the OS v4 that we will be seeing today

As sad as it is, I finish work at 3:45pm and will rush out of this office like no mans business as I take public transport (bus), which turns a typical 30min car journey into almost 2hrs as it is.

Multitasking won't bother me tbh, I use it on my 3G as it allows me to switch between Tweetie 2 and the Stanza e-reader app without exiting, and that's about it. As for Push Notifications - Apple's implementation is a joke compared to RIM's, with Android being the worst apparently. It is better to rely on the Boxcar application for Push as that is a lot quicker.

All I want from OS 4.0 is a LockInfo style home screen where I can see my mail/calendar appointments/twitter and push notifications and something to allow me to rapidly scroll through page after page after page of app icons.

I also hope we see some new App Store changes to get rid of 80% of the crap on there.

Totally agree with this! This is the single worst thing about the iPhone in my opinion...

There must be so many idiots about that buy these awful apps (Such as the "Mobile Phone Scanner" =\)

I'm not sure what to expect to be honest... I don't really see the need for multitasking - but I'm sure it'll be included in this update...

I'm kind of also hoping for a sneak peak at the next iPhone hardware update :)

No. It'll start at 6:00pm

I can't see them showing new hardware, but I have been suprised before.

my phone is off being reqaired at the moment. im hoping they decide to pay out rather than fix it so that i can save the cash for the new one (if there is one in the summer :D)

They'll definitely want focus on the iPhone software only. Perhaps they'll bring the store down and update it during the keynote, with no mention of the hardware.

Ahh yes forgot its PDT over there already - damn Ill get home at 6.10pm then :p. Twitter dont let me down (whats the best feeds to follow?)

Push notifications are crap. Not only are there a large amount of apps that don't have it (or have it as the only difference in their paid version) but quite often, they're very late.

I also ended up turning mine off as the poor coding for them just caused more problems than it was worth.

I'd often get a push notification which would crash the app that was currently running, and make the phone have a fit.

Turned them off, and all is well. Go figure. ;)

 Works absolutely fine for mine, and it was great to have push and cut/paste etc.

It's made my stupidly slow. I have a lag of maybe 5 seconds to open up a text message. There's also lag when typing in the softpad, I'll type a letter and eventually it will show that I've typed it on screen.
I've restored the phone loads of times and it's still slow. Kind of makes me miss my superfast nokia 3330 really. :p
