Polish president Lech Kaczynski killed in plane crash

Am i the only person who think that paedophilia should be acceptable if they don't infringe on the rights of others?

I'd far rather celebrate the death of somebody like Hitler, or Thatcher (which i think i just might) than that of somebody who had a fetish.

Yep. Sexual "perversions" aren't often as simple as "he/she likes to have sex with X", there are often numerous environmental and social factors that contribute to it throughout that individuals life. To condemn them for something that is arguably largely biological, and often a result of experiences in their life (good or bad), is, well, unjust.

Of course, if they act on it, as in, go out and cause harm to people. Whatever the age. Then yes, they need to be punished according to the law.

In 99% of situations like this one, diverting flight is simply not an option.

I sincerely hope that was not the case. It does not matter if all the presidents and prime ministers of the world were on one plane the final authority always should be with the Captain. Safety always first.

In aviation circles they have a phrase called "getthereitus" (get-there-itus). Its a "disease" (mindset) where some pilots who *know* its dangerous to proceed (say a landing at an airport with very poor visibility) keep pressing ahead with usually disastrous consequences. Im not saying this was the case with this TU154 crash but it does keep happening (mostly in light-planes I should say).

Who cares that you might have to endure a 2-hr bus ride back to your destination because your plane had to divert due to bad weather. You are alive.

I'm kind of disgusted that this didn't make the front page of either of the papers I got this morning, and was, instead, on page 8 of the Observer. :o

I felt the same as you, it made the bottom of the front page in the Sunday Times with the main article in the back pages. You could hardly see the front page snippet. I do wonder about their priorities. :o

Poland has begun a week's mourning.

RIP all :(

I think it's terrible so many innocent people died, and it's a shame they had to pass in such a way, but in the end I think it's a good thing for Poland as both the Kaczynski's are complete retards along with most of their party and policies. Nationalism will get the Polish people nowhere. And especially basing their policy on the teachings of the Catholic church is stupid. It's a shame most of the Polish people still believe firmly in god and are catholics, it's really holding them back.

First of all safety first. What does it mean things don't work like this ? The lives of those onboard is the top priority.

I'm with you on the principle that pilot should be the one to make decisions in every situation. However, in reality it's slightly more complicated. Safety is precisely what hinders pilot's decision making and to be honest, in those circumstances, the ability to make a call is, at least in large part, removed from his duties. Heads of state traveling to foreign countries are transferred between internal security units. They are delivered by one security cordon, transferred to the plane with bodyguards, and then flown and unloaded straight into another secure motorcade already awaiting with their own vehicles and preplanned route.

Any scenarios involving Presidents and their entourage (especially those from countries actively involved in several wars, like Poland is at the moment) landing in a different country and awaiting casually by the conveyer belt at a terminal 2 for their men in black to pick them up in chain of bulletproof SUVs from Starbucks by parking lot on level 4 is simply not part of the regular travel roster or strict rules regulating such travels.

In days to come we'll probably discover there were no 4 attempts to land (unheard of in civil flights) but the plane circling airport 4 times before attempting to land. Multiple witnesses (official press core that landed 30 minutes earlier) report they heard the engines spinning up before they saw the plane hitting the trees - as much as such reports are pure speculation, if proven true it would suggest two things:

- the fog wasn't that much of an issue - if journalists could see the plane approaching and crashing from airport hotel mile away, surely the pilot could see the airport as well.

- sounds like the pilot was trying to pull machine back up in the air, the question of course remains, what were they told by the tower and what did they see displayed on the two cockpit altimeters and the radio altimeter to approach landing strip so low and at such angle.

Time and place, time and place gentlemen. Does the thread with title " Polish president Lech Kaczynski killed in plane crash" look like a good place to vent that sort of es? WTF is wrong with you?

I accidentally pressed insert and a sentence disappeared as I wrote something over it and I failed to notice that :(.

A rant about the polish political climate ( in Particular Lech Kaczinski's and his stupid party), it feels like I'm in the dark ages when I go there once per year with the attitude about some things there like:
Gays ( they even don't want to accept registered partnerships, let alone marriage), Euthanasia, Abortion, Softdrugs, etc...

Can't see anything wrong myself.

This is the reason all gays come to live in UK (not only polish though) and also polish women come here to get free abortions.

Church still plays big role in Poland.

I was in Poland when this happened. Very very grey across the country now.
National week of mourning has been declared. Everyones got candles lit and flags hanging outside. Very sad.

Kaczynski was a controversial figure and although many disliked him I don't think people would've wished him out this way.

Terrible. 70 years on from Katyn and now this.

Firstly: Mr Kaczynski - it's how we write the surname.
Secondly - this "stupid" party (in translation: Law And Justice) is a work of both twin-brothers, him and Jaroslaw who is its president, CEO whatever.

So focusing on a clue: I know there are some similar points to the mid ages in this party, which personally I don't support. But do you really think the "bright ages", or so-calles nowadays, might be proud 100% of Gays families, euthanasia, abortion, softdrugs ("etc") ? Where is it that "brightness" then ? BTW, my private opinion about abortion is it should not be allowed, nor banned - question is who and why does want to do it... educate people first, and allow them dispose their bodies next, not in reverse order. I'm not a catholic, but what's that civilisation which features death (abortion, euthanasia) - where is it going to ? It's not a place, nor time - but look at other civilisations which take your place, slowly, but consistently and constantly. In your country. In other West European countries. It's not "mixing". It's slow exchange. But of course, you can always smoke a joint, allow your partner to remove your baby and switch your parents off the oxygene. Have a nice future.

That's not a nice comment. Wishing death on someone, terrible. You should be ashamed. Digusting.

Not as bad as being in charge of a Country and keeping our soldiers fighting a futile war in which many are losing their lives for naff all

Futile? So you'd rather the Taliban just take hold of the country again and start launching terrorist attacks against the west?

YES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!

Let me get this straight, you'd prefer that citizens of our country as well as many others lost their lives rather than those who'd signed up and are willing to do so if it means protecting those back home and those in Afghanistan both from the terrorist organisations and from joining said organisations?
