Camera Quick Straps

I know there was a thread somewhere talking about the RS4 rapid strap, but alas i cant find it, so here's another, ... sort of.

Today arrived a 'Quick Strap' that i ordered on the 24th March from a well known auction site £29.99 delivered.

First impressions are very good, really well packaged, and the strap its self came in its own little bag...how cute.

Instead this the same as the R-Strap?

I'm gonna make one when i get a chance.. i don't have an old tripod.. do you think if i went into a photography store or something they'll have a spare tripod screw?

a store might carry spare screws...its worth a try...you could always buy a cheapo naff tripod/monopod for the screw...

i've no idea what kind/size of screw it is. i suspect you may need to employ some google-fu.

^ Thanks. I looked up quick release plates and there's some as cheap as £5-10, and the photography high street store sells them, There's a Manfrotto one which has the D ring at the back for definite, but i'm not sure about the others because they have no pictures of the back, so i'll go and take a look in-store.

And i think they're 1/4" screws.

Well we have all be waiting for something like the r strap to come along !
I have comtimplated a solution for years and the r strap seems to be so simple in its application.
The price is a lot for this strap !
So like so many others I wll have a go at making one.

Well the PAP STRAP arrived, next day delivery so pretty good service. I actually had the tracking number within an hour of ordering! It does what it says on the tin. The only thing I'm not sure about is "portrait" orientation use with this sort of strap, the bottom mount nature makes it a bit clumsy. I'll get used to it I'm sure. I still can't believe I bought something called PAP!

My PAP Strap arrived yesterday too, and I can see what you mean. With a grip or just holding the camera in portrait your hand is over the metal clip, so not the most comfortable of solutions. Still, it's the same for all of these straps, and it's better than the evil little eye-loops you get.

I'm not sure on the screw myself. It's going to take a lot of double-checking every few minutes initially. I didn't overly tighten it when I first tried it, and was slightly alarmed at how quickly it became slack. If it doesn't work well enough I could always use a quick-release head plate though - the clip ought to take one, and they don't ever seem to come slack. :)

Another thing, due to the way the camera sits when slung and it's location. I'm a bit unsure as to the screen and possible contact with things like studs on jeans...

I haven't had any trouble with the screw, I hand tightened it and it hasn't moved. It does cause worry though! :D

ok, ive finished my diy strap! i pulled the d ring off the quick release plate and added a keyring for strength/security in its place. I also added a 'safety strap' (yes, its a psp wrist strap :p ) in case any of the components between the strap and camera fail.

The strap itself is an old laptop shoulder strap and a neck strap from something or other added together (to allow me to hang the strap accross my body), with a nice big shoulder pad for comfort.

here is a (terrible- iphone 3g camera) photo of how i have it all hooked up:

i have it adjusted so the 'grip' side of the camera sits naturally in my right hand when my arm is relaxed.

I like your safety strap, nice one.

I think I'm going to use the strap fixing location on the grip for mine. Just need to fashion a short loop strap for the connection. This should I reckon give a more comfortable hold in the portrait position.

Op/Tech now sell a conversion kit to turn their normal straps into a Rapid-type strap and it uses the normal strap lug rather than the tripod bush. I picked up a couple at Focus on Imaging but haven't tried them yet.

in case you were wondering, the big lump o sellotape on the swivel clip is just to stop wear. i'll replace it with some plastic tubing at some point. the little cover that small modelling paintbrushes come will will be ideal :)

Did you get it off the bondscamera guy?

Looks like it will work fine.
I have knocked some thing up very similar and is much more comfortable than the normal camera neck strap.

my bondscamera one still hasnt arrived - seller assures me its becauseof the volcanic ash, which could be true i guess...

ive had it out and about with the 70-300mm on and it has been superb! no more neck/back ache and i can have the camera handy at all times without it getting in the way :D
