Attacks aside, I am still interested in your response to what I posted - which I believe proves my point on the political positioning of the Lib Dems (for which you attacked me).
Hatter -- long post warning -- you asked for it ..
OK well first of all is context.
There was a post from a guy who said he knew NOTHING about politics. He didn't know a darn thing.
So I wanted to try and type just 1 paragraph (not an essay) to give as broad a brush-stroke of English politics as I could.
The way to achieve this is to start thinking about what
defines the parties. now I'm not going to bother with weasel-words so instead I thought the most useful thing to do would be to write about the difference in their guiding principles.
Now in my opinion the greatest difference between Labour and Conservatives is in their tax/public spending/size of government ideas. This kind of dictates to some degree thousands of other policies.
now as I said I don't want to mislead this nerbie with regards to the politics. I thought 'I better mention about the Lib Dems'. Now the vast majority of people in this country, rightly or wrongly, will see the Lib Dems as the 'centre party'.
I really didn't want to scare this totally political noob away with some massive essay, so I wrote (if you check back) the Lib dems are kind of inbetween the Conservatives and Labour'.
So I refer you right the way back to the start .. this is correct in the context of me talking to someone who wants some uber-basic information about politics in this country.
Then you went what I considered wild at me and said I knew nothing about what I was talking about. Which upset me a little because I swear I wasn't trying to annoy anyone with the post I was trying to say an AMAZINGLY SIMPLE politics 101 to someone who was asking a basic question. It's far too early for such an audience to drag out the 'chart' thats been posted here a few times saying where the parties currently are on the political spectrum. It'd just confuse the bejesus out of anyone asking for the simplest possible entry point into understanding the politics .. wouldn't it?
You said in your post that everything I had said was complete cods-wallop. And I just thought 'That's not fair it's all right and correct when seen in the context it was intended, as building block 1, junior level, very first steps of British politics.' I didn't think it was fair you saying 'Britters is stupid throw his entire post in the bin he's talking rubbish'.
To this day, right or wrong, I believe kids will be taught as their first building block of understanding that Labour is on the left, Tories on the right and Lib Dems somewhere in the middle.
I believe this is a DECENT STARTING BLOCK to learning about our party system and their very general overall level of decision making. Of course it is NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE, it is not a perfect description, rather it is a starting block for understanding.
If the bloke had typed 'Can someone type me a 10,000 word essay on British politics', THEN your wiki. links come into play NO PROBLEM. But he didn't want that.
That's the way this panned out. I was just trying to be nice to some dude and also really was trying my hardest to be neutral. Yet you called me words to the effect of 'a thicko that doesn't understand anything' which made me feel bad. You probably will again now

oh well, at least I know I tried to explain ..
