Now I really should get myself a sleeping bag but I dont like single ones as I feel trapped so it will have to be a double what do you recomend ??

I don't think I've ever seen a particularly good double sleeping bag or at least they tend to be of the sort for casual camping rather than the wider choice you get in single sleeping bags. Argos will do a range of sleeping bags including doubles, most of the 'proper' camping shops won't have much, if any, choice for double sleeping bags.

Can get pretty good XL single bags, unsurprisingly they are usually american makes

I like being able to move around in the bag so american XL sizes are perfect, and come in some very high performance ranges.

Just get a normal one, open it up and sleep in it like a duvet. Stick a sheet under and you're sorted.

For heavy use - I use the Exped Downmat 7 Pump (£130 I think) as I sleep outside a lot from -35'c Norway to +10'c Castle Donnington to +50'c Oman and even use the same Snugpak Elite 2 Sleeping bag for everything. So far both the Bag and Mat have made for a few years of sleeping comfort and I don't see that changing. As an added bonus both Bag and Mat compress down to smaller than a 3ltr bottle and are very light.

For light use - A foam mat will do with a bulkier Bag, 3 season preferably even this one from Argos is very warm (used it for UK trips but it's huge in a rucksack!).

Ah, I didn't know that so thank you. I'll bear it in mind for any future recommendations although I'm pretty happy myself with an ordinary mummy sleeping bag.
