Apple holding iPhone OS 4 event, April 8th!

err 3.1.2 definitely has a battery status..

I bet you used the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta and then when the GM was released you restored your phone from a backup?

If you were to start afresh on OS 3, there would be no battery status option. It is an odd one, however. No reason why this shouldn't have been available to the 2G / 3G.

You guys have to remember that the 3G is missing things from OS3 let alone OS4 that it is perfectly capable of (video recording, battery status % etc).

It's not perfectly capable of recording. The sensor in the iPhone 3G is photo only. These apps which 'enable' video recording are just constantly capturing images and putting them into an order. This is why you only get about 6FPS video recording on the 3G.

Can you revert to 3.whatever?

It is possible? yes. Is it easy? Not sure...

Yea you can revert to 3 if you want.

I don't advise just purchasing the £59 just for the Beta's. They have a few bugs of course which will be annoying when you are so used to fluint OS3. :)

I hear windows users cant try it anyway on the dev program because it wont work for windows users at the moment?

In order to develop for the iPhone or iPad you need to use Xcode and Cocoa/Objective-C. In order to use the development tools you must (by EULA) use apple technology - ie Xcode which only works on OSX..

I've got the OS4 installed on my iPhone as i am a Developer, and i must say, it is fantastic. Truly fantastic, the MTasking and Folders are great. Works fantastic, great UI.

apple said there are 100 new features in OS4 so have you found any that are any use ?

MT is very useful, when I connected mine with OS3 to the head unit in my car it locked the phone, now with OS 4 the ipod runs in background and phone is still useable. There are lots of subtle tweaks, Apples usual constant small incremental improvements, overall it seems quicker, drains the battery more, but clearly an improvement

Location services can be set on/off per app, I've not been looking for all the changes, just using it as normal.

Re the comment above - you only need to pay the £59.00 if you want to develop on device, it's free to register and download the sdk.

Not the beta ones. You need to be a paying member to get access.

You have to be registered as a dev in order to get the OS4 stuff though don't you?

Don't forget: If you know a paying developer you can give them your phone ID to add to their account (they can add upto 100) and you can then install the OS 4 Beta.

You will be able to in-app sms, there is an API for it. Devs will have to implement it I think. Not sure if this will be the same as 'quick' reply though.
