AMD Six Core Prices and Clock Speeds Unearthed

Supposedly there is some change to the 45NM process technology used to manufacture the Phenom II X6 which will reduce leakage:

An interesting read. To be honest at first I though that the 'turbo mode' would be something of a gimmick and likely to start messing with people's overclocks to the point of becoming a nuisance.

But the idea of idling 3 cores if the present app doesn't multithread effectively to drop volt and heat levels for the remaining ones, boosting clocks beyond what would be possible with all 6 running intrigues me. Its a clever idea, I hope it plays out well, at the very least it definitely has potential.

However, in reality I see this as merely broadening the range of max clocks from one card to the next, some will get much more lucky then others with their chips, especially when it comes to apps that dont multithread well . It's all fine when you are close to stock, but when pushing it to the limit already and hoping to get that 300-500 extra from the 'turbo' its going to be less about power/heat and more about 'can the chip even do more?'

Can't believe this dude runs benchies without even overclocking. He should have the CPU taken away and given an Opteron for his sin.

Haven't bought anything, just posting the box shots that have appeared.

If I get an X6 it'll be the 1090T, I want my unlocked multi.
